Have used it for many years now, but kind of have got away from it for the most part. I use more Big Crystal from Danville as it is much softer and when wet it like of lays back to give even more colors of flash. I also use a good bit of Estaz which in my book is the highest quality Mylar chenille made and as soft as any. Krystal Flash was one of the first flash chenilles I ever used, but soon I jumped to Cactus chenille and I like it as well, but don't think it's near as good as the Danville Crystal. They are will work and catch crappie, but I still stick to my 2 favorites and think I have tried about every brand I know of already. Have tried the Ice Chenille, have tried the Pearl Flash chenille that WAPSI has too, which to me is just Crystal Pearl dyed to make their colors.
All these flash type chenilles will work and really it's just a matter off what you like which is more important that what I like. That is because anything you like will make you have more confidence when you fish with it and that makes you try it longer before changing so you end up doing well with what you like!

Thanks for your thoughts Skip. Durability is my top concern and I have been trying all of the flash chenilles. I find that Estaz is the toughest cord and holds up the best against the saltwater toothy fish I encounter. Bluefish will cut you off but the unavoidable Ladyfish are chenille jig destroyers.

Chenille is something that has no limit to what can be done with it. And all supply houses do have their own colors that is big in their area, while the flash type is here to stay a lot of people still want the basic colors of nylon and Rayon. Over the next few years the big thing is going to be bladed jigs. That puts Skip out front of most of us as he has the pony head in place ready to go. Best of tying to all.

My surf (Pompano) jigs have evolved to using teasers that offer action and keep teeth away from the line. I have been using crimped nylon for the teasers because of durability and now I am experimenting with chenilles to mimic shrimp or crabs. This Newage chenille got torn up after just a few fish. Estaz style chenille flies with bead eye are doing well as teasers.

I think you steered me in the right direction. Swivel Jig Rig: 3/8 earball head, #2 Owner Flyliner, Estaz, crimped nylon, flash, bead eyes. This should hold up. Thanks Skip, sorry for the hijack.

Not a problem guy, I like your baits for sure and I use to fish in saltwater a lot especially when I lived in Ingleside. Man your taking on a different monster when you talk about these fish and chenille, LOL! Them ladyfish are some jumping crazy fish! I bet that little fly does the trick!
I am not sure where you are, but just a quick story, use to fish Cedar Bayou a lot which is not all that far from Rockport. It cuts through the islands to the Gulf and sometimes there are lots of flounder in there. Saw some guys just kill the flounder (67 they had) on what looked like little crappie jigs.
