I was at Fort Polk, LA when I was in the Army, and I darn near ran over a gator with my Hummer. He was just sunning himself in the middle of the road. It was about 10 feet and didn't have a head near as big as the one in the pic. Based on the height of the truck bed and other surrounding objects, I would think that the Game Warden in that pic is closer to 6 foot, and based on that same scale, the gator would be about 15 feet. Either way, he'd be fun to wrestle with. We should start a gator rodeo. Have to stay on for 8 seconds and you get a bonus score if you still have all you body parts. hehe

The real deal. She had a nest close to Whangdoodle Pass on Caddo and decided she did not want a bass rig passing by at that particular time. She was swimming toward us doing a zig-zag pattern. We said, OK and turned around. We guessimated her at about 10 feet of Mean.

no they r fun to watch. i see gators all the time. i torment them by dancing around and yelling "woooo! woo! woooo! yieeeeeeee!" they get purty agrevated and they look at u out the corner they eye playfully and then they run at u. but they run with a waddle. and i run off a little then laugh at them. then i do it again. its a game we play. they like it. i sometime bring them food for when i see them. hotdog, chicken, shrimp. Hey "smellsbad" just read your post here & it's just as stupid as the one you posted on the tree-cutting @ lewisville. Do you even fish at all? I know you'rea newbie, but this is not a smart-[censored] board. engage in intelligent conversation or go (away) to the off topic threads.

Wouldn'd suggest it, Fish. Gators are protected by Law in Texas...if you shoot one, unless you were in serious danger, they'll fine the heck out of you lol.

And yes, that pic is real. Just don't bother them, and they won't bother you! Remember, you're in their habitat out on the lake, not the other way around lol.

These pics have been going around the internet for years. They've been claimed from Australia to Cat Man DO. Check out www.snopes.com as others have said.

Amen Starless! There are serious laws in LA. too. One is "Harassment of Reptiles". That one includes throwing a lure at said Gator or Croc with intent of it striking. Big fine. They do allow hunting with permit in season. Gator tail is mighty tasty.

Yeah, I think we have the same laws here, as far as Gator Season. And yes, Gator tail tastes great!

let's say i go to a new, remote area around a lake to bank fish. are there any tips bank anglers should know about with regard to gators (make a lot of noise or....?)

i bank fish around snakes without a problem, but i'd hate to inadvertently stumble across a gator. i'd love to watch one from a distance though! =D

Folk,

We are all in a lot more danger from uncaring and irresponsible water borne hot rodders [Boat (all kinds) & PWC] on the water than from gators and/or snakes on the bank or in the water.

Think about it.

Have been tubing all around the metro area, have seen a few, but have never had any problems with them so far, makes one wonder though. Legs dangling down from a tube.

Two wheels or two reels, either way I'm happy.

Let's handle those bass better. Use two hands. M'kay? - How to Handle Bass
