I've never yet used a trot/jugline, and probably never will. Seems to take out half the fun of fishing if there is no fight to the fish, all you have to do is haul in your cord, no worry that the fish will break the line or get away or anything. BOO-Ring. But that's just my opinion, as I've said many times, fighting the fish has always been my favorite part of fishing. Which is why I like fishing for big fish, and using light tackle.

That said, my personal opinion on this whole trotline discussion is that it's perfectly fine to cut any ILLEGAL lines, it's their fault for not tagging them correctly etc. However, no one should cut a tagged line or any line that's legal unless it's somehow endangering them or some wildlife or something.

Interesting Topic. I wonder how many trot line users ever got caught in one while wade fishing. Thats what happened to me this spring. Went face first in the lake. I was glad the hook did not go far into my ankle. Never figured out what sport was involved with putting those things out. No thrill of feeling the bite or setting the hook (Or releasing them alive)

I found them today washed up on the shoreline only 100 yards from the spot where we found them. frown I think they were on that line too long and didnt have any energy left.

If you need proof... last 2 pics

Lines should always be marked. I have had run lines and also been tangled up in someone elses lines. The thing that needs to be stated is that common sense and common courtesy need to be used and observed at all times
