On some of the lakes, especially smaller lakes that got a lot of water and opened their gates...it will slow the bite down...I normally refer to it as "giving them a headache"...I see that a lot on NM and Aquilla two lakes I fish regularly. So when that happens, I just go find another lake to invade, which is what I did today. Hope this information helps.

Why wait? The fish ain't waiting..they have a job to do. Just change your tactics and move on. The bite may be slower, but its still happening.

I think alot has to do with the particular lake, and lately ive tried to look at each lake as a different eco system, which they really are all differe Take Belton, if its muddy, RUN to clean water. Waco as well. Granger, not so much. I think Granger fish have adapted to the turbid water conditons, and also its not the same turbidity as waco and Belton. ALOT of particulate matter is deposited into the lakes when Belton and Waco flood. due to the large amount of dead trees along the banks, that are rotten and crumbling, I believe they struggle to get oxygen in thier gill plates when the tiny wood particles are blocking thier gills. Muddy water, is likely alot easier. but as the guys have already said, run to the cleanest water. Sometimes right at the fringe is the cue de gras spot

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

+1

Went to Lavon yesterday and it'd been pouring. Found the clearest water away from any creeks. Caught some good ones. Bladed jig is a great option under these conditions. Noisy and flashy. They knocked the paint off it. roflmao

great job, roadrunners used to be used alot more than they are today. Most havent actually taken a good look at a road runner, the hook riding upward makes it very weedless, great for pitching timber, probing brush and banklines. Or just simple basic vertical jigging, thanks for reminding me.

The Road Runner is a good one to have, and if you one hand tied with feathers or hair Skip down on Toledo Bend has the best and he is here on TFF. Just go to jig making or what ever it is to find him. I use more of the old Johnson type {Beetle Spin] myself and they can be found on e-bay for about 30 dollars a hundred. But you do have to add your own jigs and I use what I fish with everyday as for as jigs.

When I was first learning Aquilla, I was walking the bank one day, tight lining, walked up beside an older gent and his wife, sitting on buckets flipping beetle spins out about three feet from the bank and letting them lay on the bottom for 5 seconds, then flick the thing off the bottom and let it lay again...crappie would pick it off the bottom...after watching them catch a dozen fish, I asked him to show me how to do that...man, I loaded my stringer that day using that method...the lake was up and the water was muddy...I still do that occasionally with conditions like we have going right now...just saying, really good info on the benefits of a beetle spin, in this type of spawning conditions...

Yes sir, scouted again monday. A dozen or so has been the norm. I tend to move around a lot scouting. It's still a tough bite unless you've been willing to wade for males. Productive wading is now out of the question due to rising water levels.

Post spawn, summer and fall fishing on Lavon will be epic!

Welcome to the forum.
