I actually live in Ovilla, have a Midlothian mailing address. Backyard backs up to the big creek
that runs through town. I've been here 20 years, never saw any snakes for 1st 10 years, then the
copperheads showed up. Two people in the neighborhood have been bitten and my dog died from a
copperhead bite 2 years ago. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not around. Be
careful picking up leaves and sticks. They love brushpiles and firewood stacks. I usually kill about
5 copperheads each year.

This one was laying in the road yesterday. Another big non poisonous snake was laying not 25 ft away from the same spot couple hours earlier.

knowledge is powerful (it gets rid of fear) for the man who knows snakes, but me don't know snakes, I walk away from them in the wild, but near my house only good snakes are dead snakes.

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

I would be hunting down their den site and removing them from the area...for good!

I had a run in with a water moccasin the other day fishing for sand bass in the creeks.. No harm no foul though. Actually got some pretty good footage of it.

It is scary how well some of these dudes blend in. I fished for about 30 min with that moccasin about 4 feet away from me the whole time without me knowing about it until I was about to leave.

Definitely keep your eyes peeled!

I live down the road from you on the creek as well and have yet to see a live copperhead, thank goodness. But I have seen one HUGE rat snake while mowing the lawn one summer! At first I thought it was an escaped pet python it was so large! We do have some pretty big rat snakes with all the barns and chickens around here wink
