For under $500 look at the 2-man, orange SOT from Academy. I assume they are still under $500 (they were $400 when I got mine). Bomb proof and very stable. Have caught tons of bass from mine up to 12 lbs, have taken it crashing through rapids on the Guadalupe and use it for taking out shark baits from the jetty at Port A. I have been dragging that thing over granite and scraping down rivers for almost 10 years and it is still going strong. It ain't a fancy Hobbie but it sure does work even on rough waters.
