UPDATE SATURDAY APRIL 9TH

SHIP & DILLARD GET IT DONE ON RAY ROBERTS TAKING THE WIN WITH 24.15 POUNDS!

The Bass Pro Shop Grapevine Series hosted the second "open" tournament of the spring today at Lake Ray Roberts. The anglers were greeted this morning with mild weather which lasted the majority of the day, however an hour before weigh-in a cold front moved through the area bringing a few brief rain showers and some freakish wind gusts. In fact, moments before opening up the weigh-in a strong wind gust virtually came out of nowhere and destroyed the stage awning!

Prior to the weigh-in several anglers (both in the tournament and those pre-fishing) mentioned a tough bite with a lot of missed fish and/or bass short striking. Once the weigh-in started it appeared that the weights may be lower than normal but that was quickly dismissed as several anglers/teams brought healthy limits to the scale. Clay Shipe and Brandon Dillard topped the field of 35 teams sacking an impressive 24.15 pound limit anchored by a 6.57 kicker that took second BIG BASS honors. Joe Rome and Joel McBride finished second with 23.83 pounds. The third spot went to Trent Meneese and Jeff Irwin with 21.85 pounds plus the overall BIG BAS of the day weighing 7.70 pounds. David Crow and Mark Child slid into fourth place boating 20.58 pounds. Fifth place went to Andy Sallee and Ron Flowers with their 16.21 pound limit. Rounding out the top-six was Dan Beard and Kyle Judd with 15.10 pounds. The complete final results have been posted below!

I would like to thank all of the anglers for coming out and fishing today, I appreciate your support and hope to see you all at the next open event which will be in May at Lake Lewisville. I will be confirming the date and will post the details as soon as possible!

Do any of these actually fish on Grapevine?

Yes! I have hosted this series for 8 years with the majority of the tournaments each season held at Lake Grapevine! I was forced to suspend the BPS Grapevine Series two years ago due to my insurance regulations prohibiting hosting tournaments during periods of low lake levels. The challenge we are facing currently with Lake Grapevine is the continuous high water level and the closing of primary ramps on the Vine (facing a similar issue on Lake Lewisville with Lake Park closed). In addition, I must obtain the requisite "permit" to be able to host a tournament on Lake Grapevine. Once Katies Woods and Dove Loop are back in full operation I will be hosting a series of tournaments on the Vine!

The BPS Grapevine Series including "open" tournaments are all traditional five-bass limit "stringer" events with one weigh-in at the end of the day, and pay "cash" (1-5) to each place. I do award additional "product" on occasion on top of cash payouts. These events are separate from the BPS Big Bass Tour.

If $1300 won first how many boats / fishermen were in it. Could you at least post complete results . That might bring up your numbers if others knew . Thanks
