aren't tilapia supposed to be a controlled species? how do you apply with parks and wildlife I assume for a water body record for a fish that is not supposed to exist in that body of water?
I mean guess obvious answer is that they do exist because they've been illegally transported at one time or other. seems like TPWD would frown on that. especially that it was also released.
not meaning to be a downer, just curious. a nice fish all the same. Texas Parks&Wildlife has given out records for several types of fish other than Tilapia that have never been stocked in Public Waters or to have not to have existed in public waters. Oscars,Gold Fish, and Pacu Red Bellied are just a few. I personally do not know the reason why records are given out on these fish but they are and that is fine with me. Another example are the Rio Grande Cichlids. Four years the Rios were not considered a native Texas fish. It was not until 2012 when Texas classified them as a native Texas fish. As for the release of fish. I personally release most of my fish but have kept my share to eat. I have released 95 percent of my record fish. That is just me!. Curtis: I usually pitch a large night crawler close to them and retrieve it very slow. This also applies to using a float. A very slow retrieve has worked for me. Also thanks for the reply. Green Tumater. Thank you sir for the reply! Love those Tilapia.

Thanks Chuck for the advice! Usually do not even try for Tilapia but there is always that time when you see a nice school of them and want to pitch a bait at them.

No problem. Usually good time to nail one when you see a nice school. Side Note: Certificate arrived. Record is now Official!

Nice fish and Congratulations on yet another record fish. The Great Southwest has been very good to you. Do those rivers stay warm throughout the year?

Thanks Gitter for the reply. The Frio,Sabinal,Nueces, and West Nueces all have some springs feeding into them. As for water temperatures I do not know. One thing for certain some of those rivers hold some nice Tilapia. Side Note: Do not see many from the banks while fishing! I always see a lot on the Comal River in New Braunfels.

Note to all Unless the rules have changed tilapia are not to be released back into the system once caught. Just like all invasive species they are to be degilled when caught.
That is a big ole tilapia.
Retirement best job ever.

Nice fish Chuck. Congratulations on yet another record fish! Keep em coming. Side Note: I see a lot of Tilapia on some of the rivers I fish. I have used both live worms and soft plastics to try to get them to bite with no success. Seems you are catching them a lot using live worms. Anything you can add as for tactics or ways of making them bite? That Chuck has really got it down to an art!The Picasso of texas fishing Thanks GT and 9094 for the replies! 9094! Yes I know the rules quite well. Fishing way out in the middle of no where I figured that fish was there well before I was. That was my decision to release that fish plane and simple! Side Note: I have released about 95 percent of my record fish!
