So we went to Irwin bridge, hiked a little over halfway to Newman's Bottom. We fished for about 5 hours. after all said and done......stringer had a hybrid, a male white and a goo. Not much to report. The creek is almost back to normal, has a nice flow, starting to clear up, but sad to say, I am starting to think it is time to get the boat ready to hit the lake. Especially after seeing what J-Moe did out there, LOL. Anyhow, this is the first year in quite a while I have been able to get out to the creek so many times, in a long time. So now we will push the 'ole pontoon up in the creeks and get some of those bedding crappie. Thanks all for all the great reports. AWESOME year all-in-all. Thanks for the report. It sounds like the run is coming to an end. By the way, it was Hoggwild that killed them surfacing on the lake. Although, I will gladly take credit for all the fish he catches too

J-Moe and I made a mad dash up Jerdelle Saturday late afternoon to find the creek has dropped about a foot or more and cleared up considerably. Still caught a few of everything LMB, whitebass and sunfish but the whitebass spawn is pretty much done.. Whitebass fishing gets reel tough in that tea colored clear slow moving dropping water. Cool picture

If you read the first paragraph at the above link, the last sentence is: "For saltwater finfish species caught in the public fresh waters of this state, saltwater bag, possession and length limits apply." That sentence implies that there ARE bag and length limits for black drum (i.e. goo) caught in freshwater because that species is regulated under the saltwater game fish. Maybe I'm wrong... I think this clause is new and/or used to be worded differently, and I don't know if they intended to change how the regulations apply to goo.

I believe what they are referring to is that it is quite possible to catch some salt water species in fresh water. Particularly red fish. Then the salt water limits would apply. But I believe they are referring to salt water species. Gasper goo is a fresh water species, not salt water. Correct me if wrong.

To my understanding the black drum (Pogonias cromis) and freshwater drum (Aplodinotus grunniens) are two different species. Only the freshwater drum is commonly referred to as a goo?
It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Thank you for that info. I thought they were the same species. In that regard, I agree that there are no regulations on goo.

Freshwater drum (goo) are not considered to be a gamefish.. but they do eat well if you can catch the bigger ones.. the small ones are thin and hard to fillet so keep them whole..

When do you think they are going to slow the flow at the spillway?

Lake was about 3 ft high today. The COE will usually cut the flow in half when it gets less than a foot, closer to 0.5 foot above normal. At the current rate of release the lake will take about 10 days before we get to 0.5 foot above normal. Any additional rains, will of course, change all that.

The release from the lake also depends on two other factors.. #1 is what is happening downstream in the Brazos and #2 is how much water is coming into the lake.
The COE has to keep the lake near normal level to be able to control possible future flood water and provide for the water needs downstream when demand dictates.
