I slipped over to the spillway this evening for a couple hours. Stopped by my crawdad hole on the way to the lake, so that is what I used. I caught a BUNCH of goos, a couple channel cats, and a giant buffalo. I noticed a lot more gar in the water this trip compared to A week or so ago. I didn't see a single white caught, but did see a few nice hybrids caught on shad. Most stringers I saw had a few catfish and drum on them.

Anybody checked the smaller creeks lately?

The creeks are ready for another round of whitebass fishing.. it's gonna be muddy, slippery bank fishing but everyone should be able to find a few fish if you find moving water.. that means going upstream.. sometimes a very long way upstream to find the fish and moving water.. crappie are just the opposite they tend to like the slow flowing deeper pools downstream. With the lake a few feet above normal the creeks are backing up with very slow moving water. Lots of the whitebass spawning activity takes place at night and is probably peaking right now for the last cycle of the year.. so get it while the getting is good!

If you seine for bait at night, it is so much easier to do. They are shallow and they never see you coming. A few sweeps and you'll have more bait to fish with than you will know what to do with. And the whites will be up shallow feeding as well.

I hope to make a few more trips to the Yegua before this spawn is over, but that still remains unknown at this time. Taking a grandson fishing at the steps this afternoon.

I stopped by the dam from around 3:30 to 4:15. I saw basically the same thing. One person leaving with a single crappie, a couple buffalo, a goo and a gar caught. No white bass being caught. Heard there was a couple hybrids caught.

I also stopped by the Marina, it was a little off do to the dam just being opened. It should be good for crappie fishing this weekend though.

I walked the banks but didn't see any bass on beds. I saw quite a few very small male LMB cruising the banks.

The smaller creeks should be good for fishing again.

I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon.

Wish I knew what the yegua looks like. Now is probably best time to get your boat up in there.
That's long haul from one end of the lake to the other for dirty water. Hoping some of the other creeks look better.

Yesterday, I drove over the Yegua at Hwy 141 near Dimebox and it was still very muddy and moving fast. Might be good by this weekend though.

I walked up into Cedar Creek this afternoon. I was looking for moving water. I walked up stream for about 30 minutes or so; about as far as I've ever been upstream. I didn't find any moving water. The lake is backed up further than at any point that I fished Cedar this year. I tried fishing a few of my spots but didn't have any luck.

I left and checked out the dam. There were a few crappie being caught, nobody had more than about 4 though.

I took my fly rod and hit the ponds. I caught a bunch of greenies so I felt better, no skunk, LOL

I'll bet we can find whitebass way up Birch creek.. you will have to go up a mile or so but once you find moving water there should be fish.. With this much water you should be able to paddle straight across the field east of the birch creek estates boat ramp if it is open wink
..

I went to main lake Welch park yesterday and Sunday, on Sunday I caught two big cats on cut bait. Yesterday one goose and a small cat. This was my first experience in Welch, lake Somerville. I waited a long time in night and not a lot of bites.
I see people photos catching a lot of fish in Welch park at night,
Did I did anything wrong, I used cut bait fish for bait. Am I right.? Somebody please give advice
Overall I liked the beauty of Somerville. I need a place like this haha.

I don't fish with live bait very often myself. There were some posts on tight lining ghost minnows and shad. If you get a map of the lake you can pick out the deep channels and other structure around the point of Welsh park. I see people fishing off the point, as well as deep in the cove on the right side. They also use big popping corks to draw the white bass's attention. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some better advise.

I went fly fishing at Overlook park this evening. I used a small white popper and crawfish briminator pattern. I caught a bunch of small bluegill and longear. I saw a big bass on a bed this evening too.
