I grew up in Texas....lived there most of my life (with the exception of the last 15 years)....those of you, who, still live in Texas, don't know how lucky you are. I currently live in East Tennessee, and have the pleasure of fishing the Tennessee River System lakes....These lakes produce some of the largest 5 fish limits I've ever seen...having said that.....I'd give anything to be able to move back to Texas and fish any number of the lakes, there. Enjoy what you have......

San Antonio. Reasonably close to; Calaveras, Braunig, Medina, Canyon lake, Choke Canyon, Mathis and others. That has to be the best spot for a fisherman to reside, and the aforementioned waters (most of them) hold just about any kind of fish you can think of. Even the Coastal waters aren't too far off. Outside f Texas, South Carolina, somewhere on the Santee Cooper system. +1

That's a really tough question, especial the multi-species part. Spokane, Washington would be great for LM, SM, and tiger musky, plus proximity to trout and steelhead....but I wouldn't voluntarily live anywhere the lakes freeze in winter, so that lets out Spokane - and Alaska. Alabama wouldn't be bad, especialy anywhere in the triangle between Millers Ferry, Troy, and Montgomery. Central and northeast Florida, of course, is always a contender. East-central Oklahoma could be a good choice, as is northeast Texas. I only fish for LM now, so I'd probably choose northeast Texas.

Bayou Bienvenue in New Orleans. You can fish saltwater and freshwater without leaving the boat, plus access numerous other lakes. Anywhere there is a massive delta system in a warm climate. The California Delta and the Louisiana Delta are the best. I'd spend early October to mid April in Louisiana, then mid April to end of September in California. This way, I avoid the humidity of the Louisiana summer and most of hurricane season. I spend big bull red season and football season in Louisiana--LSU and Saints fans are a lot of fun to be around. I'd also be close to deep east Texas, for the best LMB fishing.

I haven't been to Alaska but fished hard for 25 years in south Florida. When you wake up in the morning you ask yourself what do I want to target today... bone fish, tarpon, snook, peacocks, redfish, largemouth... all within 45 minute drive in city traffic.

I have traveled a lot fishing and vacationing. While there are many great destinations, to live and fish I'll stay in Texas.
