What is the best and why? Hand control or foot control troll motor`s. I have a hand now but sometime`s get in a tight spot and wonder if it might be easier to back out with foot contol.

I prefer foot. I had hand for sometime but my back liked the foot better. Having to reach to steer got to be a pain. Plus I kept my hands on the rod and reel at all times.

Good points there, Evv.

I've always had a hand, mainly b/c of my beliefs that there's one less thing to go wrong with them....plus, I like clear deckspace. However, my dad was forced to change, and now he loves his foot-control.

I'd stick to my hand control. Cheaper, too, but...just like extra room I have to move around, that's all.

I've got a hand control on my boat now, but I bought a foot control a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had time to install it or use it yet, but I can't wait to try it out. If you are going to go with a hand control, I'd get the hot foot buttons installed on each side of the front deck.

I prefer a foot control. I fish cranks and spinners mostly and I can change direction or make minor steering adjustments mid-retrieve. However, my Dad's boat has a hand control so I am familiar with both. The points above about the HC are good ones. There is more room on the deck and less maintenance. Get the Hotfoot switches as well. I also highly recommend the Pro-Kontrol for steering, MUCH easier.

I am the opposite of Texascandc. I went from hand to foot controlled and I will never go back. After you get used to a foot control, you don't have to watch the motor. You can drive by feel.

I wouldn't have a hand control without the Bigfoot switches and the Pro-Kontrol.

Same here. I think I'd sell out and quit before I went back to hand operated.

When I bought my boat in August it came with a foot control. I took it back the next weekend and had a hand control put on it. I didn't feel like I had control with foot control. With the Bigfoot buttons and the Pro Kontrol it is extremely easy to steer. I can aim it right down a shoreline, lock the bigfoot and fish without worry.

Fellas,

Who makes Pro-Kontrol? I just did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I have a hand control TM with a big foot and really like it. I might be interested in a Pro-Kontrol if I knew a little more about it. Thanks. fish

In my opinion it's a slam dunk for the HC. I've had both. Unfortunately the Nitro I recently bought has a foot control. If I ever have trouble with it,it's history.

I was raised on the hand control. I've fished with a foot control and it just didn't feel natural to me. With the the hand control, on windy days I'm not doing that one legged dance on the front deck. It takes up way less space as stated previously. The pro-control is nice. The absolute best I ever used was the old Larry Nixon edition Big Foot control. You could do just abuse that thing and since there weren't any moving parts it never broke. I tend to kick mine when I'm coming around a point or avoiding something. The only thing bad about the current set up is the old Big Foot box isn't digital and won't build up speed. If you accidentally step on the high by pass button you'd better have something to grab onto or you're going down.
