I found this forum a few years back. It is helpful videos such as this, that has me running to the computer to check things out. The other day before the storm, I hiked in to Newmans Bottom. When I got there, there was a gentleman standing in the creek with a stringer full. He was about to hit the limit. I walked down creek a bit and had a good time. I came home with a stringer full. I tell ya, the hike is was not bad at all, but coming out with the fish, I was reminded, I am not a youngster anymore. Thanks for the video.

Not real sure if this is legal or not, but when I walk in to Newmans, I carry a fillet knife and clean the fish right there. Put the fillets in a zip lock bag and walk out. I just cut the weight back by at least 1/2 and its so much easier to pack them out. There are two big rocks by the trtail way bridge that have a flat surface to clean these fish on. One on each side of the creek. I would be interested to know if that is legal as well.

I know you can't clean fish on one side of the lake and then have them in your boat and travel to the boat ramp. But cleaning your fish before leaving the creek should be like using the cleaning station at Nails before leaving. But some times what seems to make good since doesn't always fly though. But I won't have to worry about it because I'm not walking in that far.

Lake Level is 240.86. 2.86 ft. above normal. The spillway is still closed but I suspect they will open it up this weekend.
Fishing below the dam has been hit or miss. I caught 2 hybrid and 4 big white bass yesterday evening. I caught 4 undersized white bass and a bunch of bluegill this evening.

Lake shows to be at 241.77 and 0 release. I went by there Thursday at about 2:30 and the parking lot was about 2/3 full and crowded for that time of day and esp on a weekday. J-Moe posted hit and miss last few days.

They won't open the gates until the Brazos drops down... I was out today on the water.. Lake is FULL.
By time I left the tires no poles were visible

By time I left the tires no poles were visible The Brazos has dropped a few feet at highway 60 in the past 24 hrs or so. It is still rising down at Hempstead.

I went to welch for a little bit today. two light bites. I only switched lures a couple times, but I wasn't very committed to my endeavor. An hour and a half and I was outta there. I didn't see any baitfish to speak of or anything up shallow.
