I feel bad for the guys who think scents don't matter. I've seen the difference time and time again.
Yesterday morning after the rain, I couldn't buy a bite on a senko, even tho I knew the fish were there. I dipped one in a little spike it garlic and boated 5 fish in the next hour. If this was the only time I'd seen it I could write it off, but I've seen it numerous times. Scents work to differing levels, but most of them DO work. I agree. I catch fish on both scented and non scented baits and I have seen over and over again scented baits do work better. I do my own on the water studies and do not rely on what tests others have done. I also know that I get less bites If I use braided line vs non braid, again from my own on the water experience. Many people still think color doesn't matter and that is just untrue also.

Are you talking about straight braid or braid with a leader?

Idk but from experience I know that sometimes scent does seem to matter. I have on many occasions used craw scent (a lot of it dripping on bait over and over) to trigger bedding bass to bite. I believe I have had enough success to actually say that it can help. I believe earthworm and baitfish attractants can at times help. No solid studies just anecdotal evidence on my part. Interesting somebody commented that power scent can help but can also become a deterrent to fish that have been already caught using that scent- not sure.

I can't hurt, only improve your odds. Put the odds on your side.

There seems to be a lack of knowledge on how scents move through water. Hearing some people describe how it "attracts" fish you your bait really illustrates the lack of understanding of fluid dynamics. People use air as a guide and that's a poor analogy as it's typically a much slower process. If you have a significant current and fish in one area, this could theoretically happen. Or like Joe said..... Bed fishing a sopping wet lure in one confined spot could set up an osmotic gradient that the fish would eventually swim through and would then at least be aware of the smell of the bait.
Spraying an oil based attractant on your plastic worm as you drag it around the bottom of the lake doesn't sound off like a beacon waving in unsuspecting bass. If it did, all of the professionals would be coating their lures continually.
Dr. Sears has shown really interesting results on how certain flavors make bass hold on to a target for longer periods of time so even if that's the least it does, I think many of us are on board.
