We're planning on putting our kayaks in at Irwin bridge tomorrow morning around 8... Depending on coffee conditions.

We'll float down to at least Newman's bottom, then decide on if we are going further down depending on the bite, and how we feel. I've never been able to fish the Yegua, so this will be a blast even if we come up empty handed.

I walked
to Newman's this morning and had my limit by9:15. It was good to be back at my usual holes. But the strange thing about my limit it was all males. I never had a limit of just males before. Carrying them out brought back memories of years ago before you could ever drive down there.

There are several spots between Irwin bridge and Newmans that are not passable in a kayak.

Be prepared to get wet, muddy and upset quite a few bank fishermen.. it is better to paddle up from the park where the kayak gives you the advantage needed to reach Newmans without walking.. Often times the best fishing starts about 2 miles up the Yegua from the park boat ramp around the Wolf Pond area. From the boat ramp it is only about 5 miles to the trailway bridge @ Newmans.. Crappie and big fat female whitebass will still be in the deeper pools anyway from the reports I heard so far..

I went yesterday and could see the white jig I was using about 1 foot. Flow and water level is back down to what it was right before the last rain.

Good luck to all out there at Newman Bottom today. The forecasted rains this week might make this the "last of the Mohicans" (last few days) fishing the Yegua??? That would be sad. But all good things must come to an end. I was going to try and walk in today but decided against it. I'm going to do "easier" fishing elsewhere. My son, daughter and grandson (10 yr old) are there today. I hope they catch. I'll experience the NB through them today.

tight lines all!

Shut up and fish!

I am thinking about going this morning due to the rain that is coming. Might be my last chance at some mega whites. The river over by Granger will rise and fall quickly, so that will be where one can finish out the fish spawn, but this creek might get wild and never settle back down to fish before the spawn is over. So I'm thinking one more trip here might be my best choice today.

Fished for two hours, caught six whites, two blacks, four perch and hooked into something big, it stripped drag for a while before I was able to turn it. Long story short, it wrapped me up in some brush and broke me off. I think it was a buffalo. But I did see a guy walk out with a limit. You know the drill, one has to walk way downstream to catch the fish. And I'm not walking that far.

Fished overlook marina yesterday from 6 a.m. til 1 p.m. for crappie, I managed 1 and my buddy from the THF side managed 3.

Was very slow, baskets of 3 to 6 fish is all we saw leaving the docks. Figure soon as spring break hits and it's crowded as heck the bite will really be on there.

There were a few caught that went from 1-1/4 lbs to 1-1/2 lbs.

Yes fishytx, you can walk in now. I did Saturday and caught a limit. Still a mile walk.

I enjoyed the video, greenyak. That's a long paddle to get to where you were fishing. It looks like you caught a nice mix of Whites & Crappie.

What about biking in, or is that road too muddy?
