and then the starter disengages. Turn it over again and it is all starter whine.
this sounds more like a connection/battery/starter/bendix problem.....if no flywheel engagement and "motor" isn't turnin' over....?

Good Point, by disengages I meant I can hear it spinning and it never fires up the engine. I have never checked to see if it is engaging the fly wheel (although I am fairly sure it is). I have been on the water every time it happened and have assumed it is spinning/engaging the flywheel. It sounds like it is spinning the engine and not getting any fire as it will occasionally throw a spark, but I guess I need to make sure it is. The Battery is a brand new and have only been on the water 3 times with it, the voltage is good as I tested it on the water with a volt meter. Initially it had a bad battery. The last time this happened I popped a trolling motor battery over to the engine and still no dice even though the battery was putting out the correct voltage.
The bendix gear on the starter is fairly worn down, I would say somewhere around a 1/16 groove on every tooth, however I cannot hear it slipping on the flywheel.
Intermittent problems are the absolute worse to figure out. I guess it is possible the starter is not generating enough RPMs to turn over the engine? But why start the next day like nothing was ever wrong?

I believe you would know if the starter is not engaging. Had a guy having trouble starting a 200hp carb motor Yamaha after stopping and fishing. Checked everything, even the tuner. Decided it was because he was shutting the motor off while moving in gear causing the motor to load up. He quit doing that and said no more problems.

Well now I am really worried. I just stopped in to a Marine Service place here in San Angelo. They are telling me without a doubt it needs a carb rebuild. Heck I can do that but I am not convinced this is a carb issue. They told me if it was a stator it would never start to begin with.
Is there anything that screams carb rebuild to anyone? It doesn't die while running(or even sputter the tiniest bit) it only fails to restart after I turn it off with the Key after using it for a while.
Guess I just need to start Easter egging and get to work myself.. Unless someone can recommend a service center or marine mechanic around San Angelo?

when ya try tha re-start thing do you use tha enrichner at all?
bad stator "might" not let it start but i've never seen it... think if its bad enough ta not start then it should never start... although it is an electronic motor and just might be a little different but don't think so... Gary???... anyone???
really need ta know if tha "motor" is actually turnin' over are not first!

I might have the ice cream licked. Sometimes you just have to pay attention. Earlier I said the starter gears teeth were worn down. The reason is the the starter is always engaged aginst the fly wheel. The longer I run the motor the hotter the starter gets. It has apparently been like that for a while..
I am ordering a starter to replace. Gentleman I appreciate all the input and help, I will let you know if this replacement corrects the problem.
What burns me the most is it was clearly like this for a while based on the wear on the starter teeth, and the guy that sold it to me had to surely have known.
