Genius!
After few weeks back I tried to get back into the yegua and missed creek bed. I dredged about 150yrds with my jackplate up. So I've started!

Lake Somerville / Overlook Marina
To all you crappie fisherman who are confined to the bank. The bite is starting to pickup at Lake Somerville Marina. Overlook is a shallow marina. Approximately 10 feet in depth with the lake at normal level. At this time of year the fish start moving shallow to spawn and their fishing docks are excellent for crappie. I've personally seen a couple 2 lb. plus crappie caught there this year. The marina is close to the dam and is usually effected for a couple days before and after closing the gates, but it should be good this weekend.
They sell minnows, worms, catfish bait and have a selection of all kinds of old and new tackle. Sherry, Bill and Solan are great people. I like to fish for sunfish and bluegill there once the water warms up.

It's Nails Creek at CR 125. Nothing like busting out the old folding chair and catching a few fish from the bridge. That's classic.

A unique set of circumstances have to occur first for this little sandy creek to have spawning whitebass in it and it begins with the presence of water, flowing water and a good amount at just the right time of year. This situation simply doesn't last long and often ends in a minor fish-kill. As the creek and lake drop back to normal levels these fish get trapped in shallow pools waiting on another flush of flood water to take them back to the lake... This is Texas and rain when you need it, in the amount you need it, is not likely to fall..

Great video, Ben. I had a blast today.
You really schooled me on the fly fishing, literally. I think the ratio was 10 fish for Ben, and 1 for me, but I caught my first White Bass on a fly so it was worth it.

Hook Line Sinker. That video brings back a very old memory(circa1980). Those whites would get trapped and we would seine and net them and get them back to where they could make it back to the mainstream. Of course we kept our share but we saved 10 to 1 on what we kept before they would not make it. One of the first big pigs I ever saw was down there eating whites and we walked up on him(at 6-7 years old he still seems like a 500lb boar in my memory lol). Great old times.

the whitebass were actively spawning Friday and anyone fishing this weekend will likely catch a few..

Good stuff Jared, glad you caught your first white bass on the fly. You had a great teacher. Ben is a master at fly fishing the Somerville creeks. Everything I've learned about catching fish on the fly has come from Ben. And don't tell anyone, especially Ben, but he still schools me quite often too Seriously though, I learn something new about fly tying, technique or presentation every time I fish with him.

I guess everyone is catching fish because the reports have stopped coming in.
