That's the right answer!

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Rod all day. You can put a cheaper reel on a $500 rod and still have an awesome setup.

Thanks everybody, the reason I asked this question is because I saw a rod in the trading post for $475.00.
My immediate thought was there is no way in h___ I would pay that much for a rod.
I consider myself to be a fair fisherman at best, but I don't believe a $500.00 rod is going to make me a great fisherman.
I agree with Jim, spend the money on a guide and learn how to use the equipment I have.
Then use the change to buy more BEER.
Thanks again.

I agree the rod is where you want your money. I don't think you need to spent 500 dollars on each lots of good reels and rods much cheaper. You will feel all of your fish through the rod and line. You can get by with a lot cheaper reel. I would say you can get a really nice rod or reel between 150 to 300 together you would spent 300 to 600 for a combo. just my .02

A $500 rod with a $100 reel is going to be a much better combo than a $100 rod with a $500 reel. . .I fish slow a lot, I need sensitive equipment.

Rod for me. But, like you, I could go with a $225 reel and a $275 rod. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Screw them and their $0.50 ante.

Even worse, it would cost $1 to bet $500.
