I worked at BPS (Customer Service Counter) for 4 years and the reason that some don't want to put a rod and reel together or switch rods/reels on a combo, is because of the headache it causes in inventory later on. Has nothing to do with actually selling it or cutting a zip tie. A rod has one UPC in the inventory, a reel has another and each different combo has a different UPC. When the store just decides to put a combo together, their inventory will then show that they are short a rod and reel and sold an extra combo. Correcting the inventory is nothing more than one big headache (I know because I did it several times). If we swapped out combos for everyone who asked, we would have had to hire someone full-time just to keep the inventory updated.

Kind of a rant, but I worked in the motorcycle business and had to deal with this kind of thing a lot. People would come in ask you to spend all this time fitting them for a helmet figuring out what brand of helmet fit their head shape, trying to glean all information on what they needed and what was best for them only to buy it online. They would literally say "thanks for the info and spending an hour with me, I'm going to go buy it online". People wonder why Customer Service is [censored] these days? It cost money to put that stuff on the shelf for you to look at, it cost money to turn on the lights, and it cost money for me to sell it to you. People come in to your store, use your service and professionalism, and don't pay you for it.

BPS is better than some places. I just wish they were a bit cheaper or had a "bargain cave" like Cabelas.

Academy, in my opinion is #1 with BPS and Cabelas coming in neck and neck for second place.

This makes sense. If you are going to purchase online, then purchase online. But don't use a store offering personal service to pick the product you want. We all need to make a living.

IF everyone purchases online, there will be no stores to get the hands on and personal service.

And, yes, I agree this is only my personal opinion.

Might have been a car show in the parking lot.

See, there you go. Had the salesman or lady I chatted with at BPS explained why they couldn't help me then I might have walked out of there with a little better attitude. There's a reason for everything and sometimes it helps when you know that reason. Thanks for the explanation.

I forgot to pack my reading glasses on one trip. Had to irritate the sales guy at the reel kiosk several times!! Way to dark down on the floor.
