hoggwild,Yes, I saw someone paddling above the Newman's Bottom bridge yesterday. He told me it had taken him three hours from the lake.

It was good to see you again as well. And yes, the party really got going good as the lighting got a little dimmer. I guess they couldn't see the detail in the jig as well is why they bit more often. Normally the late bite gets going crazy good about that time every afternoon, so I was banking on this to happen and it did. An angler can go from zero to hero in the last hour of daylight.

Barometric Pressure is supposed to rise to 30.52 tomorrow and stay high all week. May be some tough fishing.

Lake level is 248.3. Releasing 178 cfs.

That's pretty high. Was planning on running the boat up there tomorrow. Kinda second guessing now.

lake level is 238.3.. J-Moe mistyped it.. a fishing report from a friend of mine..
Ben,

Just to give you a fish report. Buddy and I went cedar creek last Thursday afternoon...got there about 12ish. Walked in toward the lake about mile and a half or more...only caught 4 small black bass. Moved down to nails creek about 3pm. Between 3 and 5:30 we caught over 150 crappie and few black bass. We kept 38 keepers between the two of us...probably released 12 ish that were close but did not push our luck with measurement. Buddy caught one that weighed over 2 pounds. Several times during the period we were catching fish on every cast and all out of same pocket of water. All caught on chartreuse curly tail grub jigs. Just thought I would share...probably won't make it back until presidents day.

Ben,

Is nails creek accessible by bank and if so where at?

Thanks,

From the Fish Tales videos It looks like you can get to Nails creek from the state park via the trail way road.

As I continue to see this virus called Zika from mosquitoes here in Texas, I thought I would bring this to everyone's attention. The mosquitoes are really bad on the Yegua around sundown. Very very thick. So you might want a take precautions just to be on the safe side.

The trailway was closed last I heard. It may have reopened?

The trailway is still closed and the lady at Nails and a guy I met on the creek both said it was not a good idea to be down there. Might get ticketed. Newmans still had a Area Closed sign at 140. Anyone know when it might open?

I talked to Adam on Sunday. The plan for Newman's bottom was to repair the road on Monday and the entrance bridge was to be inspected on Tuesday. If everything went well they would open up soon after that. I haven't heard anything though so I'm not sure if any of this got done or if they made some other decision.

As far as the trailway itself, it is not expected to be open, so that presents another challenge. How do they open Newman's but still restrict access to the trailway.

Kind of funny that the hiking path is closed but the guys that want to be there just need to park so they can climb up and down creek banks to fish. Soon the run will be over and they won't need to open. Not good marketing.

Fished Nails Creek today from the kayak and...

I didn't catch 150 fish, but I did catch 4 really nice size Crappie to take home for dinner...

And also caught a few nice black bass to keep things interesting...

It was kind of a tough bite today. All fish I caught were holding really tight to cover. The creek looks great. It's nice now that the water is back down to normal level, and I can see the banks again.

Word is on the street, Newman's is going to open back up for business tomorrow (heard that from a park ranger, but you may want to wait for the official word)

Out.

I had some time this afternoon and went to Irwin not expecting much. Got there at 3:30. Had countless nibbles by perch or crappie and 1 largemouth took the hook. Then at 5:30 just like Doug said something clicked. Caught 8 whites,8 crappie, and one perch by 6:30. Still biting when I left but couldn't see where I was casting. Tons of small strikes that didn't take the hook. Lots of perch running up to jig at edge of water. Good day as far as I'm concerned.
