Granger, the waves get bad when the wind picks up.

Benbrook. It's the stumps more than the wind, seems like the mothers repopulate every weekend.

Had some harrowing experiences on Big Sam back in the early 70's. Once was fishing under the Hwy.103 Bridge on a beautiful Spring day when a squall came up so quick we barely had time to untie from the bridge supports. Immediately headed back to Etoile Park but the squall was nearly overwhelming. We were in a 14 foot flatbottom with a small motor(maybe 10 horse?)and was nearly swamped. Had to continuously bail water and hang on. It is not that far from the bridge to the Park but that day it seemed like 10 miles. Lived to tell about it obviously but have not been back on that lake in a small flatbottom boat. Another time we actually capsized out from Driver landing. Lost all fishing gear but made it home ok.

I am with Jacob on this one. I live in Nacogdoches also and really like fishing Rayburn, but I am very careful about where I put in because of the wind. I fish by myself most of the time and it can be hard to load a boat at Cassel Boykin and some other places by yourself with the wind up. Also the waves can get very high very quick if you are not careful. I remember one day my son and I were fishing and it got so rough we were afraid to try and get back, so we went up a creek and beached and just waited it out. I don't mind fishing in the wind, but on a lake like Rayburn, you have to very careful.
The wind can be bad at other lakes also, I fish Nacogdoches a lot, but on the east side it is easy to load and the waves normally don't get high enough to scare me. Naconiche can be hard to load on with the right wind also.

I know of places to fish that the wind won't bother you and if the fishing is slow, I just leave. I also just fish in the cove by my house, it has a lot of brush and is usually good.

But I have to agree on the scarey factor, if the wind is blowing out of the North and you head down to the south side, the waves there are huge, they really build up a lot of power coming across the lake.

I'm surprised texoma isn't high up on people's list that's a big body of water with plenty of area to build up waves. I tried lavon today, got 20 yards from the ramp and realized it wasn't for me. Trailering was a nightmare to the point where I had to go in to my waist to trailer the boat. The truck and trailer were at a 90 degree angle that was the only way I could do it. You should see how chewed up my transducer is

the most scared Ive ever been was Texoma in a 35 mph south wind. We had some 4-5' waves out there, even in a 22' CC it was a little scary, I don't think we were ever in any danger, but those waves were big.

It's a good thing to pay attention to the wind wherever you go. Jackson Hill can be a beast if the wind is out of the north. The first scratches on my boat came when we had a tournament out of J.H. Launched there and by the time weigh in was, we had 4 1/2fters rolling straight into the ramp. Had the trailer half way in the water. Was riding a swell in and just when I reached the trailer a side wave hit and pushed the boat half way over on the trailer. Once on the trailer the swells were coming over the back of the boat. Had to get on the front deck to keep from getting any wetter. We did get a check that day, but was rattled for a while!

By Far Texoma, but then again, I mostly fish there. you can get 4-5 foot waves within 45 minutes, and if your on the North side (Caney creek, Solider creek), you better always beware. I have a Deep hull 24ft and have had waves over the top a few times. have seen many folks in trouble, some I could not help. but all lakes can pose issues with High winds and unknown bottoms. Yes I have had to 90Deg, the trailer more than once.. smile I check the Wind and direction more than I check moon and Temp..

Roberts for me, especially when it was low... I just don't know the lake too well and she gets stumpy quick!
