A book of the history of Williamson County, just north of Austin, Travis County, had accounts of gators in the creeks, and rivers in the early 1800's.

LOL...and they're voting for Bernie.

Look, I agree whoever skinned it needs to face the punishment. However, the folks saying the map is wrong, stuff is native to Rayburn etc....is just not accurate. Gators live in MANY areas farther west and farther north than they did 300 years ago. My family settled and surveyed the Bosque river for the US- they didn't have gators back then but they do now.

I gurantee the angelina river system has had them for 100 plus years. Trinity river system can be said the same.

Are you old enough to remember an old game warden, Harley Burge? He had a t.v. show in the 60's and maybe early 70's on the Waco station. He would talk about gators in Lake Belton, or Waco, can't remember which. Miss that old man, he could embellish a story.

Been there longer than a week. Saw it there at least a month ago and I am guessing it rotted away. As bad as it stunk a month ago, I cant imagine anyone taking the time to skin it, but what do I know.

I've never seen one on Belton but Stillhouse has some in it. In fact, someone killed a fairly big one last year and got cited for it.

Saw a baby gator up in the back end of Little Caney on Lake Fork this past summer.
didn't bother his sun time,,, figured momma was close by somewhere.
I figure they are in most of the lakes here in Texas. If they are in the small ponds/tanks around Athens, I know they will be somewhere in Lake Athens.

If my memory serves me correctly Harley talked about seeing them while stealth patrolling the Leon river for lawbreakers above and below Belton. He stated most people never see them due to their outboard motor noise. Local news paper in Comanche took some photos of one about 6 foot long behind Proctor Dam 8 to 10 years ago. Theory was that it had been purchased while small and released when it got to big.

A 15' to 16' Alligator in Texas would exceed the existing state record by almost a foot or more. I would like to see such an animal as it has to be huge.

Wasn't my comment, but I imagine hes someone that enjoys being in the water and gators relocating to places like Sam Rayburn where they weren't originally native....is irritating. They serve no purpose in my mind on the ecosystem.
The American Alligator is not indigenous to the Angelina or Neches River systems? Pretty sure they were there long before us but thanks for the biology lesson! Just because a creature is driven nearly to the brink of extinction then makes a come-back does not make them non-indigenous. Kill the non-indigenous nutrias and leave the "irritating" alligators alone. :-)

Other than the fact that they might eat your dog, your kids, or you; what's the matter with them?
