So I have been approached by a good number of folks
asking me what the plan for this year's trip is.

Well, I hadn't thought about it at all, but it appears
The majority of the group wants to keep it going by ourselves
& some of those have asked me to put it together.
I guess that's OK, but this year we have some options, & I'd like
to hear everyone's thoughts before I start reaching out.

let the 2nd annual Margarita Mojo Memorial Tuna Safari planning discussion begin!

I'm interested and listening. Missed last year's trip but would like to fish with everyone again.

Certainly up for some tuna fishing and will help anyway I can.

For sure we should explore other options.

Can we talk about another deep drop trip too?

Robert

That crossed my mind as well (maybe going to another boat) but I'm not sure if it is a good idea or not. The Scat Cat is a hard act to follow but to be honest, I really have not fished other boats much. It's definitely worth talking about. What do you guys think?

The Bluefin is available in Freeport, the boat catches fish.

It's a 48 foot boat and only takes 10 anglers on a 36 hour trip.

Charter price for the trip is $5600.

Not really a viable option, just putting it out there.

Anyone have pictures of the inside of the Dolphin Express or the Gulf Eagle as well as the fish storage area?

Steve D. .... who was on our last trip ... told me that the Dolphin Express had 15 bunks and were not cramped. The DE is certainly not the Scat Cat for comfort but there are other perks. They only take 15 folks so there is a lot more room. the boat is a lot faster, hence a 50 hour trip versus 56 hour, etc. But it is more expensive too.

I have fished with Timmy in the past and he will get you to the fish .... the rest is up to the fisherman.

Another option would be to charter both the boats at DSH .... the Pelican and the Gulf Eagle. That would be 12 people per boat. Again this is more hard core as far as accommodations, etc. but they catch fish.

back in '06 we chartered both boats from DSH & it was fun.
We need to remember our core group is approaching 30 anglers these past few years,
& try to find a charter that can handle as many of us as possible.
I will be down that way today, & I may hit the island & talk to folks if I have the time.
for the record, I'm not expecting much flexibility from FW, & It is the best boat, but I'm tired of being treated like a tourist

My two cents..., I really would like to explore all options and take as many as the group possible. we have a really seasoned group of anglers that are not "tourists" and have to be coddled by the crew. That should have a lot of sway in any negotiations with FW or any other dock. Plus the fuel prices are falling like crazy, I would like to think we can get a better price with these business. Yeah its popular to fish for yellow fin tuna these days , but we are a definite trip if we can get a decent captain ,crew and window to fish. I know I've been plunking down at least $ 1500, if not more (according to the bank-wife) every trip. That's a lot of cash for no or 1 fish, we are here to hammer the tuna, not for a long boat ride. We need to make sure that the docks know we are serious fishermen/women, that are committed to these offshore trips for us and THEM. Thanks, Billy
