Giving these guys a break today, going after some black bass instead. Come on big boys, bite. Hehehehe It doesn't matter what kind of fish is on the end of my pole, just as long as it pulls hard. Those of you going after these whites today, good luck, can't wait to read some good reports later.
Tight lines, Fishytx.......... ,<'///><

Just wondering with the 25 white bass daily limit, do we run the risk of depleting too many pre-spawn fish and affecting the fish population in the next seasons?

If that were a threat tpw would shut the fishing down.

Besides, you have to catch the 25 first!

Just picked up 2 new ultra lite rods for my 2 youngest boys. Their catfish poles were a little much, especially in a thicket. Our eta is 12:00+ tomorrow. We brought home a stronger full of crappie last week and I wasn't mad at all:)

Went to the Yegua today. Walked downstream to the giant logjam a mile or so south of Irwin. Didn't see many whites caught. My spot that gave up a limit 2 weeks ago was empty. If there were fish there, I would have foul hooked them as many times as I drug a lure through there. Saw two whites on stringers. Got back to the Irwin parking area and there was a guy and gal fishing there that caught 45 right there within 10 yards of parking area. I think they went back to finish their limit but they had to fight off at least 5 people that were moving in tight to them. Went upstream and talked to a guy that was stringing some crappie just upstream of the bridge. I will have to meet some of you guys that go way upstream because I couldn't find the path after a little while. Had to bug out to pick up the kids from school. They probably started biting this afternoon. It was a beautiful day to be on the creek. The trash level was also considerably down from 2 weeks ago.

That's pretty awesome for them. Here we are busting the brush for miles and sometimes you just never know. The first bend near the parking lot can produce, but you'll be crossing lines and rubbing shoulders by 9am.

Well I couldn't take it anymore. I had to break out the fly rod. And man am I glad I did. God blessed me with an incredible day of fishing.

I tied a chartreuse / white bead chain clouser on my 4 weight and climbed down onto a sand bar. I cast out into a deep hole, got a bite on the first cast and every other cast for the next 3 hours. banana The fishing was absolutely on fire flame

I ended up catching 49 crappie, 3 white bass, 2 lmb and over 50 bluegill, all on the same fly. These were much bigger crappie than the ones I've been catching under Irwin bridge. At least 44 of the 49 crappie were keepers. The bluegill were also packed in so tight I couldn't hardly get to the crappie at times.

I tried to post some photos but photobucket is down for maintenance.

Sometimes it's nice to get away from the crowd even though you may catch fewer fish. There's more to enjoy about fishing than going out and catching a limit.

Thanks guys, I plan on spending lots of time on the creeks this weekend. Enough crappie, I'll be looking for the whites tomorrow. The 3 I caught sure were much more fun than the crappie and Bluegill. But I just couldn't make myself move to a different spot today, LOL.

Right? Good thing he didn't have to haul those stringers a long way. She didn't look like she could lift it. It just goes to show you these fish are more about the water depth than how far upstream or downstream you walk.

Paddled the canoe up Yegua creek today from Nails Creek Park. Seven power boats and two kayaks passed by me up the creek. Very busy place. I was hoping for a white bass meat haul. I got something completely different. I caught several black bass, several drum, one crappie, and one male white bass. Paddling back across the lake in the canoe was a real battle with the gusty west wind blowing across my bow. I thought I was going to get blown clear over to Birch Creek Park at one point. It was a great day to be outside.
