I'd say it's prob 20-25bs or so of force needed. Maybe you should hop in the boat first and test it out slowly. If it doesn't feel right don't go. You might be able to lift 40-50lbs carefully with no issue or you could injure yourself by lift 5-10lbs the wrong way. Hell, you could set the hook aggressively or squat down to lip a fish and tear something. If you decide to do it then squat with your legs and lift that way while breathing out.

Don't think the trolling motor will give you the problem , it maybe all the things you do while you are fishing .

The boat ride sucked, trying to set the hook sucked, trying to land a fish sucked and in the end I landed back in the ER 2 weeks later. Just call your surgeon and tell him you want to fish a tournament this weekend and see what he tells you.

This seems like some very good advice...

Go to academy and spend $29 dollars on a G-Force cable. There is no give like your standard rope.
Immediate release simply grab the handle and walk backwards, no pulling or tugging necessary. You can always step on the support to assist with the release but shouldn't need to.

I put the gas filled lifts on my 80lb minn kota and it's about 5lb of lift now. Before I installed the lifts it was all I could do to get it back in the boat. The gas lifts i used were for a hood on some japanese car. I bought them on line and they were about 18 dollars for the pair. I saw the mod on TFF last year. Best thing I ever done for myself. They look like the lifts that are on your lid covers only longer. When you pull the rope the TM will lift up several inches by itself.Auto Zone wanted about 34 dollars for them so i got on line and beat the price.Very very cool mod even of you don't have a back problem. You know how you need to hold the motor up to clear the bottom are brush sometimes? Well now I can just pull the rope and the lift will hold it up in shallow water. They look factory installed. I got the black ones and no one ever notices them. Way cool deal. Used lock nuts on my install.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.

Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that?

Just kidding man. Hope you get back to full strength soon.

I know what you're going through. Last year I tore my rotator cuff on a hookset. My doc told me to go to rehab and not fish for a few months. ....... Rehab was cool. The therapist was smokin hot. But kept fishing everyday. It took almost 10 months to fish pain free due to my stubbornness. Even bought some left handed bait casters so my hook set would be with my other arm/shoulder. The thought of not being able to fish wasn't ever in my agenda.
