I'm pretty much tied up and can't make it out there for a few days. But I sure am missing the sound of drag and a good rod bend.

Prolly not missing too much with the little cold snap. Supposed to be warming up this weekend though. Pretty sure I'll be out Thursday afternoon. Will post up if I go.

Don't let a little cold snap stop you. I went out last Friday when it was 37 and limited out. They are there and they will bite.

How far up the creek the whitebass go depends greatly on how high the lake gets prior to the spawn. The fish are looking for flowing water to spawn and won't go upstream much further then they need to. Once the females spawn they head downstream and on back to the open lake but the bulk of the males will hang around until all the females are gone. First to the party and last to leave..
When the lake is near normal level it backs up into the Yegua all the way to the low water crossing below the trailway bridge @ Newmans. The section above the trailway bridge is where we usually see the current and an increase in flowing water.
The big female whitebass stay in the lower section of the Yegua waiting for the right conditions to spawn. For many years starting in December I've kayaked the Yegua up from the park to find the whitebass further up the creek with every passing week. At some point in the run the bulk of the whitebass will be above the trailway bridge and the majority of the crappie will be below that point. I prefer catching and eating crappie and don't usually join in the chaos that is the Yegua whitebass run.

When talking about whitebass in the upper Yegua the most overlooked aspect of catching a few or a bunch is that the fish are very easily spooked. As the creek drops and clears this becomes a bigger problem. Add to this a hundred fishermen a day working the same stretch of water and the fish never do settle into any type of regular routine. I think that is partly why the fish bite better first thing in the morning and as thing quiet down in the evenings fading light.

You want to see a beautiful place to fish for spawning white bass, then go look at the video on Reimers ranch. Crystal clear fast moving water. The deeper holes are a bright blue. This is where I learned how to catch these fish. Words can not explain this place, it is something everyone needs to experience at least once. Take your family and enjoy a day out there.

Lake Level is 238.5. Only 1/2 foot above normal level. They have reduced the flow to 355 cfs. It could be the last time to catch fish below the dam for a while. They will be closing the gates any day now.

I might be able to go Thursday, but we will see. I'm getting caught up on some much needed things. Sunday and Monday should be great as the water temp warms up a tad.

Reimers and Colorado Bend are two of the most scenic places to catch a White Bass.

Getting things done much quicker than I expected. I might be able to squeeze a trip into the Yegua creek this afternoon.

Is fishing around Irwin bridge/Newman's bottom at night legal? Does anyone have experiences with it? What about tactics like using darker color jigs instead of light colored ones. And do you think shining flashlights into the were :(intentional or unintentional) spook the fish?
I know it will be more difficult due to all the trees and snags but I've always wanted to try this! I have some bright flashlights too but don't want to spool the fish...gotta find a medium.

They were really biting well when the flow dropped to this level in September. I was catching them on black/chartreuse tube jigs.
