I think the fish are there, the trouble will be getting them to bite. The water has dropped and cleared up, meaning the fish will spook easier. You'll have to sneak up on them.

I guess the young males move up first and in the Yegua that might mean something different since the creek is so long. The whites we caught in one of the shorter creeks last Saturday were very healthy size 12 inches and above. No giants but just a few good fish.

Well shoot, this cold snap will put the brakes on these guys. There may be bite in the morning while the water is still warm, but the creek is so shallow, it will not take it long to cool down causing the bite to come to a hault.

On my stringer this past Monday I had only a handful of young males. Majority were both huge, healthy females. I never measured them but I'd have to guess 14-16"

I caught about half females last Saturday. And the females were big and healthy fish. When you find them, they are stacked.

Ended up keeping 6 whites and 2 crappie. Caught couple more keeper whites and 3 or 4 undersized whites. Not a bad day.

Wow, from what I'm reading, I must have been on a mess of the smaller fish I guess. I'll take note and move around more to locate these better fish. I know they are in there, I caught some nice ones already this year.

Im a little concerned about going to the creek tomorrow morning, but probably going to give it a shot any way. As the water level drops to a consistent flow, the water will clear up and this is when my technique or style of fishing for whites really pays off for me and Im able to catch a good number of fish in a short period of time. How ever, when the water temp drops, then the bite will go dead for me. They become very lethargic and dormant. But I hope the water stays warm enough by in the morning for these fish to still be active and feed. Even though a voice with in me is telling me I shouldnt go, Im going to take a gamble on the water staying warm enough and hope I can get in on one more good catch before these cold temps shut it down for several days. From what I saw on the news, the weather isnt suppose to start warming back up till next week Thursday and then it will take several days for the water to warm back up to get these fish feeding again, and to me thats a long time. So, Im going in the morning to check it out.

I am thinking about going also. I am thinking about hiking to Newman Bottom and revisit some very rewarding holes from the past. Have anyone made the trip recently to the bottom? Have had good trips in much cooler weather.

A trip to Newmans sure does sound good. I like to take my mountain bike and ride in, fillet the fish, put them in a bag and ride back out. But that sounds like to much work to me these days, Irwin Bridge here I come. White bass interceptor, from the folks I've talked to (two people) who have been there, they claim there is a good bite down there. I just can't do it with my messed up back any more; I have to settle for something close to where I can park and make the best of it. But good luck tomorrow.

In regards to hiking into Newmans Bottom, A friend of mine got caught in there a couple weeks ago, hiking in. A game warden let him know very emphatically that it is closed for a reason and no one is allowed in regardless of how you get in. Not trying to tell you what to do, just what I know.

Doesn't make sense.. As I can easily hike to newmans from Irwin bridge.
