But on a high note, the water is starting to look really good.
Jamie, I had good time, thanks for coming back to Irwin Bridge and exploring the upper end with me.

Doug, it is always great to fish with you. I have learned an incredible amount from you the last couple of years. Structure, flow, lure presentation, sink rates, the Yegua and even a bit of history about the Yegua indians. It was great fun exploring upstream and if the fish comply I even found a great fly fishing spot with NO TREES. thumb

Lake Level is 240.6. Only 2.6 feet above normal and releasing 1943. At this rate and no further rain the lake will be back at normal level in a couple of weeks.

The water is really clearing up nicely in the creeks. thumb

1/8 oz head
White body/chart tail 2" grub

What I notice is a lot of folks retrieve to fast. The fish aren't out schooling chasing bait...

Let it sit 3-5secs and a slow steady retrieve.

That's right. Slow retrieve worked great for me.

Fished for four hours and landed 17 whites, 1 crappie and 1 sun perch. The day turned out much better than what I had expected. When I first arrived it was one here one over there. Last hour was good, last thirty minutes was great. Wish I had kept these, that would have made a good fish fry.

??????????Are they moving to shallow water now or are they still holding deep? Thinking about going Thursday if the cold front isn't to strong. Went early Saturday morning and they were very sluggish. Don't want a repeat of Saturdays action.

Since I always throw a 1/32oz jig, all my retrieves are very slow. They like it that way.

The bite is still slow. The best bite has been in five to six feet. Still not feeding shallow in the current.

Thanks, if the weather continue to stay warm those whites will start stirring up the water and what a time that will be.

Newman's bottom is still closed. Irwin Bridge is where CR 124 and CR 132 intersect. Ben and I fly fished below the spillway a lot this summer. Fly fishing on Yegua creek is a very tough though.

Jamie, when it heats up on the San Gabriel river, I would like to take you over there and show you where the best place is while fishing with a fly rod. I think you will have a blast. Chest waders are a requirement though. I have seen guys in some hip waders as well. It depends on water flow and lake level as to what you can use and get by with.
