Awesome, I have waders.

I spent most of the late 80's and 90's fishing the SanGab from Granger all the way up to above Lake Georgetown. Floated the section above Granger many times all through the year. Austin and the surrounding areas have more then doubled in population since those early years and that makes for some interesting encounters on the river..

Be careful if you head into the WMA to fish, it is still duck season till Jan 31st. People are still back there blasting with shotguns and may not be aware that people are fishing nearby. They do tend to walk the creek looking for woodies. Wear your orange.

I have a question to ask of those who yak into the yegua for the whitebass run.
This has always been a question I've never seen an answer to.

How far into the yegua do y'all normally go before you start finding fish from the mouth of the lake?

When I fish with HL&S we usually start fishing near Wolf Pond.

From the Nails creek park boat ramp to Wolf Pond is right at two miles. I usually start fishing for crappie and then whitebass further upstream. Crappie are more predictable as they seem to like the same places every year and do not move as far upstream as the whitebass.

Does live bait usually work well when the run really starts to heat up?

I've thought on seining ghost minnows up before and using in the creek.

I caught 18 yesterday. The water continuous drop and clear up by the day. I found the best bite in pockets close to shallow moving water. I waisted my first two hours fishing deeper water with crawfish. That's bad when you can't find a bite with these. Any how, in the last hour of daylight I moved around just a little and found two areas that were holding some fish. It was the last thirty minutes of light were I hammered thesee guys, 13 fish in the last half hour of daylight. It was fun.

Nice to see you out there yesterday, Doug. I had to walk pretty far downstream to find a decent bite. I didn't have much luck up by the bridge.

Glad the bite turned on for you.

It was nice seeing you again too, it's been a while.
I forgot to mention this, everything I caught yesterday were males. I have also noticed a size difference in the fish this year. I have caught smaller fish this year than ever before. I have had a few that were under size fish, which is a first for me on this creek. Average size fish here lately has been 11 to 12 inches, more 11 inch fish than the norm. I guess this is what has caught my attention on this, the number of 11 inch fish. Normally a person would catch nothing but 12 inch or better fish. Its still early though, the mega whites will show up soon, I hope.

I bout beached my mud boat in that exact area jumping into Nails.. was out scouting on my own and would have been bad news... had to hit it full throttle and felt bad cuz as soon as I hit the deep water of nails I shut it down and threw a huge wake right to a kayaker. Apologize if that was you lol

I've made several attempts to get my Ranger boat up into the Yegua, but I'm done with this silly idea. Last time I tried this I spun my hub on my prop. I'll stick to bank fishing from now on and keep the boat out in the main lake where it's suppose to be.

Anyone out today? I'm headed to Irwin. Be there soon. Too windy to get my boat off at the ramp. Was going duck hunting but doesn't seem safe by myself. Lol. Good thing I brought a rod

Dang I wish I was on this creek today. I think that white bass fever has spread all through out my vains. I'm infected, that I do know. I can't ever seem to get enough of this type of fishing in. It's a blast.
