I have a 1974 Jon V Hull, bought for $400 now it looks like this. I love it, so does the wife. We have a 24ft Striper boat, but you can do so much with a Jon boat..

I pretty much run mine like a jet lol.. It's so light, then with a 50 horse Merc, I just trim it and go. One of these days when i get a bigger one, i'll probably put a foot on this one.

I use one by choice, not necessity. I've been around the bush will bigger and more complex boats. I put this boat together 12 years ago and it does everything I want. 1660 DuraCraft with 40 Tohatsu tiller. 55 fp MinnKota tiller, HDS10 Gen 2 Structure Scan. If I had a name for this boat it would be "Chameleon". Very versatile boat.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free

I have a jon boat with a 25 hp jet motor on the back ( which becomes a 20 hp after the jet modification). It is a 14 foot jon boat and I use it mainly in the Brazos River west of Mineral Wells and smaller lakes sometimes. It is not rig with anything, you decide what kind of fishing you want to do, then grab your stuff and go. Lots of fun. I share it with all the family members that want to use it. Usually my nephew takes it the most. and sometimes my bother in law. I also have a 15.5 1979 Skeeter that I use in all the lakes in this area. That is lots of fun too.

1964 Mon-Ark Semi V hull 14 ft, I've added a couple moulded seats,6 rod holders a 12v plug and dual beam fish finder(yeah right..better called a depth finder :P). I "push" it around with a 2.5 Mercury! If you fish Hubbard and put in at Jones Park you've seen me backing it down with my old White Ford ranger!! I may only go 10 knots or less but I do catch a lot of fish from time to time as I get to fish a lot more water than I do from bank!

I just picked up a 59 Smith Craft. It's not a John but It's a tin. Currently I'm modding it to suit My fishing needs. It was a roundabout style till i opened up the bow and made it more fish friendly. I'm looking for a 40-50hp outboard to power it. I hope to find one by spring time. http://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?t=39537

Nice rigs. It doesn't take glitter to put catfish in the boat!

Fished out of several jon's from 12-18'.
I always preferred them simple, bench seat and tiller motor, nothing else mounted in the boat. On the bigger ones a center console with a mounded cooler seat and that was it. Very effective fishing rigs.

Yes, it is screwed down to the floor and the chair is bolted down to it. Only downside is my boat is not that wide so she isn't too stable in the wind. Light wind is okay to stand on the deck but I went out to Somerville this past weekend in 15+ mph wind. It was rough and I decided to pack it in early before I ate it overboard (almost fell twice when I was going from the front of the boat to the back).

Those are some nice boats.
Is it logical to use a Jon boat in freshwater & saltwater?
Usually all boats I've seen in the bays are CC 20 footers. In this economy, there's no way I'll ever have money for that.
I live in Katy, so it's an hour and a half in either direction to get to lakes or bays. I've been looking at Jon Boats as they're cheap, and you can often customize them as you want (like yall do).
I have a kayak right now. But eventually, I'll be getting a boat (God willing) so my son & I can fish together more comfortably and I could bring a guest along as well.

I've been fishing about a mile or so offshore in my yak and here come two dudes in a 12-14' jon. Also seen a couple of jons running around Rollover Pass before. I know a guy that owns a bait shop in Winnie that will run his to the Sabine jetties and occasionally out to the rigs. Seems you just have to pick the right day and pay attention to the weather.

This is my 1979 16' El Dorado. I bought it with a new 2007 Yamaha 15 4 stroke electric start. The motor had never been wet. It has a custom built trailer with coil springs and shocks. It pulls like a dream. Last spring I fixed it up and built the deck, wired it for lights and trolling motor, installed a bilge pump, and did some other things..new carpet. I came up with a rear seat system where I can slide my rear seat all the way from one side to the other. This allows me to get comfy and adjust weight distribution when needed, and I can fish out of either side of the boat with my feet kicked up. I sold my bass boat and bought a pontoon which I don't regret. But I missed my bass fishing and rigged this up with that in mind. I have a Helix 5 system and new seats on it now.
If it ain't yours don't mess with it! Need a friendly place to talk hunting? www.talkhunting.com

Aluminum Jon boats fishing high water creeks and rivers is the way to go this year. Also perfect for juglines in main lakes and trotlines at mouth of creeks. Most lakes in North Texas will be full and flowing and fish will be scattered in main lakes with locked jaws in main lake this spring to early summer. Rod and reel guys with big boats will gave not so interesting times fishing main lake, skunks would be the norms the way things are going.

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

i have a jon boat that i use as a rowboat, great way to stay in shape. i use it on calm days to get out to the 103 rocks or a couple spots at lake Nacogdoches and lake ratcliff. when the neches is low ill use it to run some limb lines and trot lines. i just never wanted a motor always just dreamed of having a row boat
