Present state record was taken on a minnow.
I would tell and then hope the TFF in Athens gives me a job since I am the Texas State Record holder
If I caught it I would donate it Cabela for a year and then put it back in it's home lake.
I wouldn't let TPWD touch it, I suspect it would die with a "Broken Jaw" Syndrome......... If this is what happened to some of the fish that didn't survive, I'm guessing the injuries or cause of death occurred prior to TPWD taking possession of the fish. Just my $.02.....

Oh yeah, in addition I would have it certified and have a replica made.

i wouldn't go into GPS coordinates or anything but I would have it certified. If you certify they will find out anyway. It would probably be on internet before you left the marina anyway. You can't keep a secret anymore.

I'd take photos, measure it, weighit and release it and keep my yap shut about where I caught it. If it was a state record I'd let TPW about it and ask how to keep it alive until they could come and verify it.

Meh... Caught it last year, weighed it on my certified arm and released it so that it could love out the rest of its life in twok. Wouldn't want to go through that much trouble again.

+10,000 Photograph it, measure the length and girth, have a replica made and put it on the wall. Every time you see it you will remember the big moment! Release it to spawn again, and let someone else catch it. Hopefully they won't kill it!!! And of course, bass over 4 pounds don't taste very good!

I would build a 5,000 gallon aquarium in my living room and retire the fish, which I would name "Queen Latifah" to a life of hand-selected minnows and crayfish, with an occasional bluegill.
