I have somehow avoided falling, slipping or otherwise swimming accidentally for most of the last 30 years.. yes.. I'm that good wink (or just lucky!) I've got a good fishing buddy that has gone for a dip at least four times while fishing with me.. he has the worst luck of anyone I know but is also the most persistent fisherman I know. One time the whole bank gave way right underneath him right after someone else had passed over that area.. now that is tough luck!

I slid in once. I totally respect the banks out there today. I went one time last year when it was flowing strong and decided it was to risky. If I had slipped in, the possibility of drowning was very high. Log jams everywhere to get smashed into. I know all to well about swift water, it doesn't have to be very deep to pin you up against something and the power of that water flowing on and around you is so powerful, you can not get unstuck. Flood waters is nothing to play around with. Wait till the water recedes. No fishing trip is worth taking a chance of losing your life over. Not a lot of easy areas to climb back out if you fall in either. Bad idea to fish this creek while it's flowing pretty strong. Hard to get back out of and a lot of stuff to get tangled up in. Not worth it to me.

If you do go, be sure to have a fishing buddy with you and maybe something in your vehicle to use to help rescue someone if something should ever happen. I keep rope with me in my tool box. Theres also some 20 ft. stalks of inch rebar on the north west side of the bridge that you could use if didnt have anything else to use. But the best thing would be to wait till this creek recedes. Fish Cedar creek, it should be good right now. I'm pretty sure that's the name of it.

I checked out Irwin this morning. Water was still out of the banks and visibility was less than 2 inches. I got to see Shea, Matt and several of the other guys I met during last years' run. We all tried fishing for about 30 minutes with no luck and moved on. Great seeing you guys again. I expect we will meet up a few times more before the run is over.

Did anyone check the creek today? It was very high on Friday and was wondering when it might be fishable again.

Usually when the water is out of the banks it takes one to two weeks to be fishable again. Probably mid to late this week before it's worth trying. It's a long drive for me so I usually wait for a few good reports before making the trip.

Fished nails creek on Friday and did pretty good. I am planning on going to Yegua on Thursday if the water drop enough. I believe that they will be very active by then. Most females seems to be ready to drop their eggs and some of the males are spewing milk when they are caught. They were biting very strong last week before the rain and I believe they are ready to explode. Caught some nice fat black bass and crappie on Friday.

Did you bank fish Nails or go up in a boat?

Don't overlook Cedar creek.. sometimes it can be really good.. I'm betting with the lake high and all the rain lately that most of the creeks will hold fish in good number too!

**^^J-MOE^^** I bank fished and found them in select places. I walked the creek and was not able to find them holding in very many deep holes or large bodies of water. I learned that the water was flowing much faster before I got there and that could have turned them off. water was plenty deep.

Sorry, next time I will post earlier so you can use it in your report.

Didn't have time to check out Cedar Creek but it can really be great for whites and crappies. I think I will do some exploration just to soothe my curiosity if I have time.

Thanks, I walked into the trailway bridge a few weeks ago and there was hardly any flow at that time either. Lake was 5 feet above normal pool at that time as well.

Thanks. Nails Creek can be really good for Crappie, but I usually have better luck when there's little to no current flow and the water is on the clear side. So far, this year has been the opposite of that. Thanks for the report.

I am finding all of you guys info very interesting. I am puzzled by the whites being in full spawn which from the pics they certainly look to be. I say this because I fish the Sabin and Brazos and while there are a few to be caught this early they are never spawning. So my question would be has any body checked the water temp up in the areas where your catching the whites?
