Of course from what I have learned on here, those rules really only apply to shallow lakes, on deeper lakes the crappie and bait fish head for the deep water instead of the creeks. Please correct me if I'm wrong ! The depth of the lake has nothing to do with whether the crappie will move up in the creeks or not. There are shallow lakes that the fish dont move into the creeks on and deep lakes that they do. Each lake is different and the fish don't do the same thing on every lake. Hope this helps.

Please correct me if I'm wrong ! Fishaholic2 advice is spot on. Whether they go up some creeks/rivers is dependent on several factors, depth of the creek being a primary one. The water depth in the lake has no bearing on whether the crappie head for the creek. Crappie seem to be creatures of habit and there are fish that head for the creeks when the shad head that way every year. And that movement may not be triggered by temps alone. Just the natural migration of fish in the late fall. Creek water tends to be a little warmer than the main lake water once the lake gets cold. Water is running over the earth's 58 degree temp and gets warmed slightly. Also, the fish and bait like the natural current. Some creeks traditionally hold crappie in winter, others don't. Crappie can sometimes be found in some very unlikely places.

Nope , clear as mud lol . So basically you just have got to find the pattern for each individual lake lol .I do appreciate the info .

On most lakes, the crappie go both directions; some toward the creeks/rivers and others head to deeper water. Palestine is a good example. You can catch crappie up Flat Creek and Kickapoo Creek in the winter and on the lower end of the lake also. As stated, you have to find the pattern and the hot spots for each lake.

Ken is correct. There are crappie both deep and in the creeks on most lakes but some lakes they do more of one then others.

What you say is right, but small lakes, stock ponds and the like also have to much water. A lot of the creeks that most times don't have fish do now. the best time to fish them is when the creeks goes down some any way.

Had a little time to kill before having to pick up the little one from school, so I fished for an hour and half, and I had these bad boys screen cap10 crappies, not bad. Fished 4-5ft jig and bobber. Some were on right off the bank under heavy debris. Used some hair jigs jasoniam wanted me to try out and they worked! Thx bro!
