Its a baited hole and should not be allowed in tournament fishing....period! your kidding right??? there is no BAIT in it... Now sinking 3 bags of cattle cubes with it... THATS baiting (and works REALLY well for catfish) Brush alone is not bait. have 0 issue with it. The tournament is about who can LEAGALLY catch the 5 biggest bass, showing their expertise as an angler. Knowing where and how to plant them, and how to effectively fish them... if that isn't showing all facets of fishing expertise... then I don't know what is

Its a baited hole and should not be allowed in tournament fishing....period! If that qualify as a baited hole then wouldn't every boat dock you flip under be considered one as well?! I have no problem with it anyone who wants to put their time and work in to place brush piles let them!

Its a baited hole and should not be allowed in tournament fishing....period! So its safe to assume you do not fish any brushpiles in tournaments at all? I mean if he can't benefit from his hard work and sweat equity then others should not benefit from brush piles they did not place. Fair is fair.

There are a lot of brush piles in Grand Lake that I have found. He won't be the only pro fishing them unless we keep getting all this rain. Then they can forget all that hard work and flip the flooded willows.

I have mixed feelings on this also. Docks are there for everyone one to see. Planting your own brush pile prior to a tournement is done with the intent of no one else knowing and you marking it so you know it's exact location. I'm sure there's a lot of thought process put into it and not just at some random location. This could be viewed as trying to gain an advantage and creating an unbalanced playing field. Just playing devils advocate here.

Most of the pros and your local poters are doing it. Technically most tournament rules don't mention brush piles, but they mention you have to follow all other rules and many jurisdictions over lakes don't allow brush piles (or cutting, or trash like wire/pvc). So good luck when you get that generalized lie detector question "have you knowingly broken any rules?". Questions may only pertain to tournament hours. Take-off to check-in. Yep

I do not have a problem with a tournament angler putting out brush piles but the fan in me wants to see the best angler win based on fishing skill as opposed to the hardest working & best brush pile planter. I am trying to think of another sport in which the competitors/players alter the playing field or court. Hunting comes to mind but not any of the ball & stick sports. ehhh never mind - Tom Brady.
In all seriousness, Edwin did have a pretty good video out years ago on making and planting brush. I would link it here but can not find it. Watch baseball much? Ever see a pitcher "dig in" the mound to help push off? Or see a team owner pay to have more seats put into a stadium to negate a "air stream" advantage that a batter had? (Globe Life Park...."The Ballpark in Arlington"). Ever notice how almost every ballpark has a very different outfield depth? Ever watch golf? Ever notice that a greens keeper will maintain the greens, when possible, to favor local pros talents? Motorcross? Digging ruts. Believe me.... All of this brush pile stuff happens everyday. On every lake. I've known dudes to carry big rocks out to a hydrilla filled lake to make a rock pile structure. Three or four bowling ball sized rocks per trip adds up fast. For the post about the polygraph? It does ask about prefishing rules. And off limits. The deal is, if it isn't against the law to plant brush piles in that lake, then no prefishing rules have been broken. Trust me. I've been polygraphed by Bassmaster. Recently. It is very general questions. Like" did you knowingly violate ANY tournament rules from the beginning of official practice time to the final weighin of this tournament?" It'll make you think.... Did I buckle my PFD every time? Even the little stuff counts.

Sounds like a lot of guys are fishing their home made brush piles. I guess I'm nieve to this technique. I always thought when I saw someone putting out trees they were crappie fishermen.

It is legal to cut dead trees off the bank and drag it out for a brush pile, or to bring your own brush to the lake. Every Pro has the same opportunity to do this. But, you must register this with the GRDA (Grand River Dam Authority) so it is public knowledge to everyone, before It is planted. Like horseplay said, there is a ton of brush on that lake that has been planted and found. Pros will find it all or have prior knowledge of where it is. The new stuff may be overlooked by them, and Edwin may have that slight advantage of having the new stuff all to himself. May or may not, that's a risk he's willing to take a chance on and bust his toosh in doing so. It's a lot of work. I hope he is rewarded.

Ask yourself this... Do you really want the best of the best in bass fishing winning by placing materials in pre-planned spots prior to big time tournements? What are the consequences and backlash by doing so? Is it healthy and beneficial to the sport for today and for tomorrow and years to come?

What is the difference between you finding a brushpile I planted in a tournament and me fishing the same brushpile I put out in that same tournament? Seriously what is the difference?
