I've always stuck with baby brush hogs or senko type baits. I've always used a 7' med-hvy rod, with a 7.1:1 reel using 50 lbs braid. I use a 1oz tungsten weight with a plastic bead to help protect the knot from the heavy tungsten, and 15 lbs fluro leader.

I've always drug the rig, and swept to set the hook.

The one thing I've had to teach myself to resist is the urge to work a C-rig too much. It's one technique that works fine just by dragging the bait along the bottom with maybe a slight twitch here and there to make it tick. In fact, I've caught lots of bass just wind-drifting across a point with one. I like to throw lures that have a high buoyancy factor like Zinkers, Zeros, and Airtails. Flukes also work great.

Lot of good info here. My suggestion is to vary the distance of you retrieve and your bait. If your set up is not working then change something. One time while using the c-rig I was sweeping the bait about 2 foot or so without any bites. I changed up and started moving the bait only a foot or less and fish on. Wound up having a great day. I agree with those that say keep your weight in the mud and drag...it makes more commotion and helps you feel the contour of the bottom. Stay with it and good luck.

One of my favorite presentations....I'll throw watermelon colors in clear/stained....seed, red, candy, magic. In dirty water it will be green pumpkin, darker colored baits. I stay with these plastics...ring frys/senkos, baby brushogs/lizards, and flukes. I work it very slow most of the time, even dead stick. A lot of the times you will not even feel the bite. That's why it is essential that you pick up the slack ever so slowly (otherwise fish will drop bait when they detect resistance), then when you feel a fish is on, set the hook. Just a slight bow in the line is all you need while working it. Don't tightline. Pretend your weight is a jig and work it like that, a somewhat slight bow in the line. I use 50lb braid for main line and 20lb flouro for leader line w/ 30" length.

I use a 1oz weight and a long leader. I reel the weight up to the tip of the rod and have the bait hang between the last two guides on the rod. I usually drag the rig sideways with the rod tip unless I am fishing around a lot of structure that I need to drag the weight over, then I drag the rig with the rod tip up to help it come over the structure.

Centepede, Zoom Lizard and LFT Baby Creature are my favorites.

I like the Zoom centipede in water melon or green pumpkin with a touch of spike it (chart) on the tail in the winter months. Will add 5-6 " lizard in the spring along with the rattle snake.
