OK. So I have been to Broken Bow for spring break on a number of occasions. Typically out on the main lake not wanting to deal with the banksters.

When the boys and I go in the summer we hang out at one of the cabins further down stream catching some very nice bass and cats.

I might want to try the trout this weekend. Have read a number of the posts and sounds like you guys are confirming the crowd is a little thinner out of the park and the fish are still there. If I try to go to far............then I am reeled in so that last cast does not last the entire day and wife is stuck with the three boys.

Is the area by the fly shop bridge or the power plant producing? We are staying in the park and the most I can be gone is a couple hours so don't want to have to drive 1.5 hours of my time in and out of the park and hiking.

Most of the areas around the bridges are producing decent amounts of fish, I went up there with Carey a few weeks ago and we caught fish in the evening hole and around the bridges. Spring break will be crowded so just be ready. if you are staying in the park, most of the driving tp the river won't take long at all, maybe 10 minutes, hiking shouldn't be too bad either unless you work your way a good bit down the spillway creek from cardiac hill. As far as the power house goes, that can be tricky to say the least, can be very hit or miss, It usually takes some time to figure out the pattern every time you go down there, and the best fishing is usually at night. it's a whole new ballgame if they're running water too. There are lots of trout throughout the river right now,Oklahoma stocked 4 times in the park before it was even opened after the flood. There are lots of walleye too, so if you hang in to something that feels like reeling in a wet rag, chances are you have one of those tasty and toothy critters on your line. Have fun and good luck, hope this helps.

Oh, and if you plan on fly fishing, be sure to take all of your tippet, flies, leaders, etc with you because there isn't a fly shop open down there at all.

Thanks Nick.
Fly house by the canoe rental is no longer open? Was it damaged in the floods? I saw the canoe rental place was damaged but did not notice the fly house.

You are fishing the river in the park. Thanks as that will cut the time. I've hung out at the Mountain Fork Cabins and fished the river down there for the bass to avoid the crowd. Spring break I usually hit the lake for the runs and crappie. But would like to take myself and maybe one son for the trout. The river has changed quite a bit since the floods so will need to relearn where we saw deep holes while canoeing.

The fly shop in the park was washed away during the Christmas flood. They are rebuilding across the road (work already started). Coach and his better half are going to use their RV as a temporary shop but I cannot remember what date they are going to start.

Canoe shop - gone. Fly shop - being rebuilt right now. Bridges - dirt, gravel, and sometimes mud approaches. River is wider and shallower in general from EH bridge to Powerhouse. If you only have four hours, make it daybreak and fish till 11am.

Enjoy

Thanks for all the help guys. Going to pick up some rosey reds from the pet shop as well. Love fishing with them. I can add a small hook and fly line.

And all the tips you experts have given. Only time I ever fished for trout has been at Tahoe and they are so numerous they are not finicky.

Is the rains gonna make the water muddy?
What color lures work best
What about cloudy days what color would I bring
Air temps in 70-75 range is the water warm enough to wade in shorts?

Gates are opening today at 2pm according to reports. It will not be fishable if that is the case. Be careful and please check the necessary websites for USACE and possibly even the Beavers Bend fly shop forum.

One report had Park Rangers even beginning to close down the river corridor and evac some campsites.

went to the spillway dam nothing
went to cold hole 1 trout gold SD
went to spillway 4 trout on 1st stop 2 gold SD (1 was 18 in), 1 silver SD, 1 (18.5 in) all gold blue fox vibrax then rock monster ate it.
