Great fish my friend. I was wondering if you were goin to pull a joke on me with one of your "trophy" fish lol. Weather stays like this the run will be over in march. We will have to get the fly rods out after them! If I can figure out how to use it boltsee if we can gather up capt. Mac and hook line. Of course with those two you and I can catch fish and they can video:)

I caught six whites, two crappie and one black bass in two hours today. Not a bad trip. I'm ready to go do it again. Ran into Jammie while I was there too. He was on a bite as well.

Sounds like fun Robert!!! I'm already getting bored catching them on conventional gear but it's almost impossible for me to use the fly rod while bank fishing the Yegua right now. I could slaughter them from the Yak right now though. Just too lazy to make that 8 mile round trip to get to the good spots. My kayak is like a barge, slow and painful to paddle. Newman's being closed is killing me.

Lake level is 242.6. 4.6 feet above normal. Flow was raised to 2000 cfs. Lake should start receding at 1/4 feet per day again. More rain in the forecast for later this week.

It was good to see you out there J-Moe. Nice fat female fish you gave me, which will hit the grease tomorrow in my fish fry.

Great to see you too. You left 10 minutes too early. They caught fire when you left.

Yea only problem is the receding water will pull the fish out for a bit.

J-Moe try using cleats on the muddy banks and spray the bottom of the cleats with non-stick cooking spray or WD40 to keep the mud from stick to the bottom.

Fishytx looking forward to running into you this whitebass run. We talked a few times at the steps when my son and I were out there.

Thanks, that's good advice.

Looks like I'm missing the fast start to the season.. Momma is recovering from a broken hip in rehab as of today. My outdoor fun time has been shortened indefinitely for the near future. Good thing I've got such a huge lead on some of you ... (J-Moe) wink By conservative estimates I should be up over the 100K mark for fish caught. 40 years of fishing twice a week all year round at a four fish average catch equals 130k or so.. it is a wonder I'm still married and to the same woman too!

Let's see, thats 8 fish per week X 52 weeks/yr X 40 years = 16,640 fish. Once again your math fails you my friend. Good thing you have an Cajun Aggie Engineer as a friend.

roflmao Just like I keep telling you; It's about the quality of the fish and the fisherman; And if the State of Texas recognizes me as an Elite Angler, you should too roflmao

It just won't be the same without you Ben. Hope you can carve out some time for us mortal fisherman. bow_down

That's optical migraine math... made good sense with the meds.. the label didn't warn of bad math as a side effect, just poor driving which I'm already afflicted.. 40 years X 52 weeks =2080 weeks X 7 days = something.. X a few fish every time I go fishing = a whole lot of fish.. apparently more than I can calculate without some more fishing time to think it over..

I remember you Tony. And I will run into you at some point or another during this years spawn Im sure.

Robert, what happens everywhere else with these white bass does not apply to this creek. It is a totally different ball game. There are huge males and females five miles up the creek already. They will hold up in deep pockets, but they wont head back downstream to the lake like everywhere else in Texas. Now on the other creeks that are on this lake, the fish will return to the lake when the water level begins to drop, but not on the Yegua. Why this is I dont know, but it has been this way every since Ive been fishing it. It is the only creek that I know of where the females go upstream with the males at an early stage in the spawn. I have tried to figure out why this is, but I have yet to reach a conclusion. All I know is I like it, big fish at a very early stage in the spawn. Its a white bass spawn fishermens dream.

J-Moe, the more you explore this creek, the more you are going to like it. The side you were on when I left has a lot to offer father upstream. I have been up it so far that the white bass quit going up that far to spawn. On a good side note, you might be up there for a long time without seeing another angler. And there are some real nice crappie up there as well. I use to fish this area a lot, but now that I have some back issues, its to far for me to tote a limit of fish back to my truck. If I see you out there again, I can point out a short cut to this area.
