I went to Irwin bridge and fished from 6:30 to 8 AM. There was only about 2 inches of visibility and high flow. I took 2 poles with a white rooster tail on one and chartreuse curly tail jig on the other. I covered about a half mile of bank and didn't get a bite. We decided not to go try the lower end. Looks like we are still a week away from decent fishing conditions. Unfortunately rain is expected again next week. What originally looked like a great white bass season is starting to look like a total washout like we had at the end of last year's run.

Still way early to give up on the run, J-Moe. The prime months are February & March so we have some time for the water to come down. Hang in there. cool

Thanks, I was feeling pretty low, you gave me new hope roflmao

There are a few other options besides just Irwin bridge too. Considering the conditions over the last year, they may even be better options.

The white bass run is going to be awesome this year. All the elements for a good productive spawn are in place. Probably going to be one of the better spawns than what we have seen in years. It all depends on how much rain during February and March mother nature provides will make or break a good spawn. I know we have a lot of water right now, but you need a good muddy water rise flowing into the lake to show the fish how to get up into the creek when the right time comes.

I really enjoy the honest information that is given here. My son and I started fishing and camping at Somerville last year. My question is: With the dam discharge where is is at right now, can you make the walk on the bank from the dam to the Y below it?

Thanks

That's a long walk, I've never attempted it. We kayak up from 36 to the Y when we want to fish there. You should be able to walk it though.

Thanks. I hope to add some adventures here. Not only Somerville but other places that we fish/camp like Matagorda Island.

I think we may just give the spillway a try tomorrow. Last time, the gate was closed and the buffalo/carp where packed in tight.

Well shoot, I've dug out my ultra light tackle. Time to go scout it out I guess. This will be my first trip of many more to come. You got a love this type of bank fishing at its finest.

Well after catching 6 yesterday I decided to go out again this morning. I caught 7 more, including a 15 inch plus trophy. Half the fish I have caught have been over 14 inches.

I decided to do some more exploring today. I fished from 7 to 11 am and covered over a mile of bank. The banks are still extremely slick. I wore my hiking boots yesterday and slide down twice. Once I ended up in the creek. I went bought a pair of rubber boots at Walmart, but that didn't help. I fell twice more today.

There are very few place to actually get in and fish comfortably.

I found that the white bass are holding on the bottom in very small areas, the size of a 55 gallon drum and are tight against the bank. I found 2 new spots that I had never caught fish before. In every location I could only catch 2 fish at a time before they got skittish and ran off for 20 minutes or so. Then I might catch another one.

I caught fish on white curly tail jigs, chartreuse curly tail jigs and rooster tails yesterday. Today I caught all the fish on 1/8 red jig head with a chartreuse curly tail jig. I used my rod with 12 lb mono most of the day so I could pull clean from most of the snags.

I saw people catching crappie and catfish in the creek the last couple of days as well
