Hey Pelican Ive got a Helix 7 which has a 800aM draw would a 14ah battery hold my FF???? How long do you want it to run without having to recharge? I think if you are starting out with a new battery and not fishing in really cold or hot conditions you should be able to get 8-12 hrs run time maybe even a little more at first. As you start putting cycles on the battery the performance will eventually start dropping off. A lot of variables will come into play as to how soon this happens. 1) The quality of the battery is important for long life, not all batteries are created equal. 2) How far you discharge each time out is very important, the deeper you discharge the more it affect how many cycles you'll get. Best not to discharge more than 40-50 % ( a 12 volt battery is considered dead at 10 volts) 3) For a lead acid battery it's important not to use it then let it sit in a discharged condition, always top it off asap and use a smart charger for your type of battery so you can leave it connected to keep your battery fully charged. I've been unable to get a lead acid battery to last more than 10-14 months but I use my battery more than most. I'm currently using a Lithium ion battery and have no plans to ever go back to lead acid. With that said Lithium ion batteries are very expensive. So, Pelican, what battery would you recommend for the Helix 7 SI GPS? How long do you want to run your FF without having to recharge our battery? How big is your battery budget?

So, Pelican, what battery would you recommend for the Helix 7 SI GPS? I'd recommend a AGM 12 volt with a minimum of 14 Ah capacity. This may be borderline for a 12 hr day especially after the battery gets some age and cycles on it. It will be important for long term battery health to not discharge below 60% capacity and to recharge ASAP after use. Anytime you can reduce the brightness of your screen and or turn off the sonar portion of your FF (which will leave your map functions available) you will be reducing power consumption. This might be a strategy to consider if you're planning a long day on the water.

If you get the tiny 12v battery from cabelas by all the kayaks, they work great. I ran my lowrance elite 4x chirp on it all summer without having to charge and it's tiny enough it fit under my canoe seat easily and it only weighs a pound or two.

Hey Pelican What are your thoughts on running (2) 7 amp batteries in parallel for the Helix 7?

Hey Pelican What are your thoughts on running (2) 7 amp batteries in parallel for the Helix 7? Nothing wrong with trying that, the main thing is both Batts need to be in the same condition. If one is weaker or doesn't hold it's charge as well as the other one you'll get the performance of the weakest Battery.
