Gene, there are a lot of good points on here. Braid is the way to go in the thickest of cover where visibility is limited. That said, a good fluorocarbon will outfish braid in more applications than braid will flourocarbon. I have proven this over and over with friends in the boat on Falcon and I can say with great certainty when people were throwing in the same 20x20 section as me and I have 35+ pounds in the boat and they have an average sized fish or 2 with braid I hand them a rod with flour and it's game on. If you are trying to save money cause you are on a budget go with braid. If you want to catch more fish over your lifetime go with flouro. If I were going to go broad I would follow Lee's advice with the flouro leader.

I think it is highly unlikely that a fish is going to swim up the line and say hey lookie here, he is trying to fool me, he really is using braid, lol. I use a 6-8 foot leader depending on rod length.

If you're trying to save money by using braid, here is something to consider that I feel most ignore; using backing on half your spool, and when you change your line, you're only re-spooling half. Hardly anybody, if anybody, can cast half their spool off if it's a full spool. Meaning you'll never reach the backing. This is what I do, either braid backing, but mainly old flouro backing.

I went braid on everything at for me personally it was a mistake ,numbers went waaaay down. I just use it for frogs now and deep applications such as dd cranks etc. I also didnt like the way it casts. Changed to fluoro and I love it

Spooled up with spider wire 50# ultra cast Ultimate - Braid,Casting a 4" Lake Fork Live Magic shad on a 5/0 Flashy swimmer hook. First cast was great, but after that the line was hanging up on the reel spool. after 20 or so cast the line broke 40' from the lure. This is the worst I have ever seen this problem. It usually happens with new line and a 1 oz c/rig.Is there any way to limit this problem,is it a line or installation problem?

Same as Yak..... My numbers went down and I was getting spanked by others in the boat that typically don't. I'm not saying I understand the logic behind it but now I'm mostly fluoro with a few braid. Just my

Braid and cold air temps don't go good together. My partner had braid on at a tournament we fished with 26 air temps and it kept freezing up on his spool. Couldn't throw it. FYI

I'm sure those who are adept at knot tying don't sweat it, but I do.

With the right rods and leaders, there is no reason you couldn't use braid on everything. It is not for everyone, but it could be done and definitely has its advantages.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE Set the hook first and ask questions later.

I love mono and have always come back to it after trying the other lines. Proper rod and line size for each application is key. Also, drag properly adjusted is important.

I gotcha, I thought you meant that the braid with leader would still cause you to not get as many bites, braid does have its nuances but I feel like it is worth the trouble.

I use braid when jig fishing in heavy cover and I use flouro when finesse fishing. I use Big Game mono on everything else.
