I've done a lot of D/S, long before many that use it today.. Over the years I've used Dobyns and Loomis rods..
I like to use a casting setup 95% of the time because of the power it gives me over the fish (I fish Fork almost exclusively). I don't do a lot of straight up and down either.. I'll use a spincast around docks and bridge pillars, it can skip under and side arm real nice...
Dobyns 701CFH extreme is comparable to the Loomis DSR 820C, real whippy I'd say 50% parabolic with backbone deep into the butt. I've landed a 12.1 lber on it. 8-30 braid/9'foot of 15lb flowcarb #1/0 straight shank gammy bronze worm hook(old school style hook)
Dobyns 702CFH extreme is comparable to the Loomis DSR 822C maybe 1/2 a power stronger than it, you can powershot with it, I use mag trick and fineese worms with that rod for some big fish in timber..
That is the true beauty of the dropshot over a C-rig etc.. in heavy cover, when texposed it'll wiggle through when the others will hang up.. Don't be afraid to up size your tackle on lakes that hold big fish..
It's a deadly technique, I just wish nobody knew about it like in 1998...
