It could happen again this December but there is a "Hole lotta water up in dat creek this time" ! Not reel sure if I can even find the fish..

I haven't been to the creek yet, but there is a good chance some whites have already moved up in it. I'll still be fishing for LMB for about six more weeks, so hope to get I over there soon. But I can't pass up the good chew on the blacks just yet. Been boating 20 to 30 on every trip. Some nice three and four pound bass, it's fun. But the white bass fever is beginning to sink in. Catching these guys are a blast.

The creek water actually doesn't look too bad, considering all the recent flow. I'm getting fed up with duck hunting and your fayette reports are giving me the fishing bug!

I've seen some limits caught in late Dec. after a good run off, so I see no reason why some whites haven't already moved upstream. It's in their D&A, so I might swing by there some time soon to scout it out. That would be a big maybe though. I prefer to go when it's in full swing.

I'm planning a camping trip out there mid December. Hopefully the lake has receded enough by then for the fishing to be good.

Spent some time in the spillway yesterday, water is pounding out of the lake. If that's not full capacity I wouldn't want to be there when it is. We caught one nice white bass on a spinner, had a hybrid hook and pulling drag but couldn't bring him in. We saw a lot of catfish caught on chicken livers fished right in the strongest current and a few nice crappie on jigs in the eddy pools. Lots of people fishing with shad caught nothing. Strange. Beautiful day to be out.

Went Thursday morning.. buffalo were so thick you could not get to anything else.. I suspect the crappie are stacked up in the still water of the overflow side downstream.. you will need a boat to get at them and be a strong paddler if in a yak.. Drop in @ highway 36 bridge, head upstream to the split and stay to the left, that is the overflow channel. The major fish kill in September was absent crappie. We saw tons of dead/dying goo, whites & hybrids but few if any crappie, catfish, carp and gar. I didn't think crappie could tolerate low oxygen levels but if they did then their numbers in the spillway will be huge!

Got a report Saturday that the whitebass were biting below the dam in the spillway if you could get through the buffalos..

Lake Level is 242.88. 4.88 feet above normal and releasing 2015 cfs. Lake should be at normal level by Christmas, pending any more rainfall.

Has anyone heard anything about Newman's Bottom opening back up? Anyone been to Irwin Bridge lately?

Im getting the itch to go fishing in the river again. I may call tommorow to see if NB is open. I live a good ways away but the river is my fav spot to go fishing.

J-moe, I was at Irwin bridge earlier this week. The south side of the creek right at the bridge was out of bank. Oddly, the water didn't look real bad. Could not find a crappie, though. The park had said NB would be open sometime in Nov., but I haven't call yet to check. The open sign was not up this week at the turn in from county road.

Thanks for the information. I guess I'll have to be patient for another week or so.

I may take the kayak up either Nails or Yegua Creek tomorrow. If I go I'll let you know how I do.

should be a beautiful day up the creek.. I'd yak Nails first it does fish well when it has water like now.. crappie for sure and maybe some whites and blacks.

I probably will try Nails first since it's a shorter paddle. The tricky part will be finding the fish with all the water in the creek right now, but hopefully I'll catch something.
