Before that seminar, I never gave paddling technique a second thought, and honestly I only attended that seminar to support Mariner, not because I was interested in the content. That changed about 5 minutes into it. I would attend other paddling technique seminars for sure.

His name was Steve Walls.

I would absolutely attend, if it clears my schedule. I KNOW my technique is poor.

The other day I was crossing part of lake lewisville, into the wind, and could really feel I wasn't being efficient enough.
I did pretty well going back though. wink

I'd consider coming too if it's not too far away. At least make it south of Dallas.

Great link!

Here's one that I've learned from:

Aggie,
I believe that's the sideways paddle technique you may be referring to?

If I could fit my schedule I would love to attend to , I'm new to kayak fishing and know I need to learn the proper technique.

Great post, I'm as green as they come and at 55 I would like to conserve all the energy I can while on the water. I'll have to check out a class here in the Austin area. Do any of you troll a lure as you paddle across the lake?

I'd rather be fishing...

For striper in fresh water. Almost everything in saltwater

All the time for striper, sand bass and hybrids and some time for crappie if you know how to do it. For the Austin classes check the ACK forum or MUD outdoors on Travis.

Great post and comments thumb

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

The other guys are right on.

I never paddle any distance without something in the water. I've picked up white bass on crappie jigs on 1/8 oz jig heads, inline spinners, slabs, almost anything.

It can sometimes be counterproductive to catch a fish on your way to some place, as you deal with the fish and the wind is blowing you back to where you paddled from. But hey, you're out there to catch fish, right?
