It's external. I didn't know there was settings for that. I'll look into that.

I think he was referring to a GPS antenna, not the GPS itself. Are you having trouble understanding the map/GPS or the fishfinder? Do you have a lot of waypoints? That can slow down the redraw on some units.

I got some bouyes to throw out next time I go to help me play around with it.

Try changing the GPS refresh rate. Comes set to "Auto" which is too slow many times. Change it to "1 sec" and see if that helps.

I mentioned that I had a new Lowrance still in the box. It is the Elite 7x HDI that I bought earlier this year. I am going to have it installed this winter and then try to figure out how to use it.

By the way there's sooooo many settings that can be adjusted.

There is a Lowrance thread in the General Equipment Discussion forum. There are some general settings in there somewhere.

Slade is great. He'll get your unit dialed in and give you some real world experience on your unit in your boat. Trying to learn it all at once can be an overload.

Hey the basics mastered in 2D and continue to watch youtube videos. I have always read that time on the water makes you better but wondered how time was going to help if I wasnt reading it correctly. For me, once I stopped trying to read the DI and SI to spot fish, I became very proficient with the 2D. Then used the other to verify my 2D reading. Then it all kind of clicked and the DI and SI became much more easy to spot the fish.

Don't try to rely on it and get frustrated. Learn at your own pace and it will come.

Yes same here. I feel real comfortable with just the 2D. Kind of the same way I've gone about it. Each time out i get more confident. I probably know more then I realize.

I'm still playing with mine too, but if you lower the contrast, it shows a better clear picture. Something you have to play with while you're on the water though.

With the Lowrance units you can get better gps accuracy if you add the point one system so I'm told. I still haven't sprung the cash from its savings account jail cell to try this out but hopefully soon. I fish a lot of brush piles so location accuracy is definitely a must in my opinion. I've also noticed if I go over a brush pile if I mark it on the screen after it has moved farther left my waypoint moves away from the point I touched on the screen a bit.

Does anyone have a different number for slade? I've tried the one on this thread and she said it was the wrong number.
