I'm planning to hit the Brazos at PK first thing Saturday morning, but could be persuaded otherwise. Think it will be crowded at Denison?

I live in Addison as well, I went today and got there just too late, once the generating started it was all about the surf rods and combat fishing, There were some good fish caught but pretty sporadic. Make sure you look a the generation schedule and yes i will most likely be crowded on weekend mornings and if they are generating then there will not be much room to fly fish in the area with current which is where you want to be.

I have a question though, The generation schedule said 40 starting at 15 and going to 20. it started at around 2, I would have thought 15 to 20 meant 3pm to 8 om but I guess 15 is 2 pm? kind of weird

Benp, not sure where you are looking for generation info.....try here: Hydropower Generation Schedule . Open the page and click the 'generation schedule' link adjacent to DENI:Lake Texoma (Denison Dam)

According to the schedule, they will be generating 1 unit from 8am-8pm on Sat, Sun and Mon. 1 unit means only one of the two generators will be in operation. One unit is usually around 4,400-5,200 CFS of discharge. If the number 2 is posted adjacent to the hours of generation, both generators will be in operation and the output will be approximately 9,800-10,400 CFS.

Most of the time you can rely on the posted generation schedule. But, be aware that occasionally the actual hours of generation may differ from the schedule.

For real time generation info click: real time data

For more comprehensive Denison dam info click here: Denison dam

Something else to think about: when you are trying to decide when to go, you might want to consideration wind speed and direction. If they are generating and you intend to fish the TX bank, a strong NE wind might mean a right-handed caster will be forced to back cast into a wind that is mostly in the face. Back-casting into a strong wind can make for a long day.

If they are not generating, you can almost always find a place to fish where wind doesn't make casting awkward.

I always consider wind speed and direction in my decision as to whether or not to go.

Some of you may be unaware that you are not supposed to wade within 1,000 feet of the dam. Prior to this year's flood, there was a 1,000-foot cable strung across the river to mark the beginning of the no wade/no boats restricted area. The flood washed out the cable, but there is still a sign on the TX bank at the 1,000 foot mark that says something like 'no wading or boating beyond this point'.

If the Corp catches you wading in the restricted zone, they will most likely just ask you to move. But, they can issue you a citation and fine.....so be aware!

Last week the game warden did ask several people to move past the sign. But most of the time there is no warden around.
