Congrats on the new rig and electronics. Certainly makes fishing rewarding and then sometimes more frustrating when you see 'em but can't get 'em to bite.

Think if I get a Helix 12 on the console and a Helix 9 upfront and a couple Power Poles; if I drive over the brush pile, the crappie will just swim to the top and surrender? OMG hmmm lol_2

It will force you to spend your time learning your electronics better. Take your manual too. You'll be amazed how much more you'll learn when you're not being temped to fish the whole time. My 2cents thumb
Congrats on the new equipment!

I said I was going to do exactly that! I just can't force myself to leave the tackle at home. LOL!

Lowrance units have the manual built right in. Don't know if the Humminbird units do.

Kinda hard to be on the manual in display and work on the unit in display at the same time no matter the unit.....just sayin. A hard copy works well or just getting out on the water and pressing buttons the old fashion way works too. Simulation mode is also a good means of learning the unit right in the garage. You can always book a trip with an Electronics guide and get educated as well as a good tune up...

I have been informed that these will become available late fall/early winter. With that being said I anticipate it being early February 2016.

Some things I did in preparation. I read the manual. I watched video's on youtube, especially the ones by Doug Verhenberg (spelling) and I played with it at home for a little while. The taking no rods with me in the boat is probably a real good idea, and I may do that when I get back home.
We had a fish fry Wednesday with our fishing friends to celebrate the good trip and make plans for our next assualt on the crappie. I am sure my buddies will go again before I get back.

But mostly I'm happy.
I love being retired, the check is in the mail.

I have the Helix 5 SI Gps now. I wonder if all the new SI units will use the same transducer?
