I have a Tracker Grizzly 1754 with Mod-V hull. It does great, although I don't spend a lot of time cruising the middle of large lakes.

Agree... for fishing big waves and lakes you will not go wrong with a Deep V boat. G3,Lund and Ranger make some good deep V boats.

Also I would have to consider how many times I would be hunting in it vs how many fishing trips in it per year, hunting season don't last long.

That's definitely been in my thought process. We would fish out out of it 5 times for every 1 hunting trip. Looking at it kind of like a Jeep vs. a Suburban.

I have a 20ft Tracker Grizzly rigged up like a Bass Boat. Of course it doesn't take rough water as good as a V bow boat but it is great for fishing out of. I have fished in many of the big lakes in Canada for musky, stayed at El Salto in Mexico, fished the Delta in California and all of the lakes around Dallas. If there are really big waves I just slow down. I have never had water come in the boat. Huge front and back deck to fish from. I have a 24ft Champion Bay Boat for salt water.

Deep v aluminium boats do not draft anymore than a modified v boat. I do not recommend a modified v aluminium boat for anyone that fishes lakes of any size. The spring wind and the summer lake lice will cause problems for you. I have had good luck with my deep v Lowe fishing machine.

Have to agree with Brian. I have a 18 foot Express mod v and it doesn't do great in big waves. And its a wet ride. Great boat in most conditions but big water and waves = wet and slow ride.

Your boat fishes good Joe, but I bet you'd have needed the life jacket if those waves I saw at Caney Creek got you. I was glad I was not in the track because I would have needed a tow. That said, I hate to pay storage and all the extra cost of a big boat just to avoid being swamped by a yahoo.
