Yes all Optimax are dfi. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I read that the main difference between a regular Optimax and a pro xs is the pro xs has carbon fiber reeds.

Most Optimax`s I have been into already have fiber reeds. They seam to have a pretty short life. I go back with the Cris Carlson reeds. Yes on DFI

what are the Cris Carlson reeds? I believe my 2001 would have regular metal reeds, correct?

Yes your 2001 has metal reeds. Google chris carson marine. Anytime I'm inside a engine a set of his reeds go in. Not a problem with them to date.

Just a heads up for those who are wondering if your optimax has steel or fiber reeds. The 225 and 250 optimax pro xs had fiber reeds from the factory. The regular optimax (non pro xs) had steel reeds. The 200 pro xs also has steel reeds up until approximately 2-1-2012 when all 3.0L Opti's started coming with fiber reeds. If you have steel reeds in your 3.0L optimax I would get them checked out. I find lots of broken and chipped reeds on these Opti's starting around the 400 hour mark.

Yea, my 2001 is right at 380 hours. I would assume I need to get these checked out and done over the winter.

Im not sure how that benefits me being in Texas. Are you saying that is the place to order them from?
Actually called a boat mechanic about switching the steel reeds to CF reeds, he acted like that wasn't a big deal and not to change them.
I personally think it would be safer to change them to fiber.

Yes that's where I order them from. I put them in myself. As for the mechanic that didn't think it was a big deal to replace them. Ask him if he owned your motor and was running 5500 rpm across the lake if he would rather drop a piece of a steel or fiber reed in the intake.

I'm debating on going with TDR reeds or Chris Carson reeds... They both seem to be good.

Chris Carson is a good guy. i was running his "race" reeds in my 200efi race motor. never had a problem with them. course i did replace them every year. racing ones are pretty thin.
