I disagree, drum are not like carp at all. They have nice white meat which is good with any firm flesh mild tasting fish recipe. They have no more bones than any other fish like crappie, bass, or sandbass. Carp need to be pressure cooked and used in salmon pattie recipes, good that way but less powerful smell. Too much work for me

Carp and buffalo are totally different than a drum. And a drum is totally different than a freshwater redfish.

My son (13) has always wanted to try every type of seafood that is edible. Well he always asked me why he wasn't allowed to take home the drum that he caught so one time I finally gave in. I was disgusted at the thought of the whole idea of even cleaning one but I did, and was surprised at how easy they are to fillet (they still smell like shad). My wife fried it up for him and he said "it's good Dad, I saved you a piece". I have to admit it really was good, very clean taste but I still don't want to do it again but that's just me. Give it a shot.
