I agree with this except the flouro. If you are just getting into baitcasters, flouro will give you nightmares. If your a seasoned baitcast thrower then use any line you like. Now personally I use mid priced reels (Ardent Elite and Grand $150 range) and Falcon Cara rods but I have a Abu Black Max that I have had for a long time and have given to my son that has lasted longer than some of my better reels and I think you can find them for about $50. The Bucoo is a good rod for $100.

Now that is what I am talking about.
Put a Black Max with a good $99 rod; Bucoo or AG Veritas, and you have a great fishing set up without busting the bank.

I've never used these, but I've been told that they are insanely good, multiple people have told me they switched from duckett's to these. http://store.no8tackle.com/c/freshwater_rods_blackout

As for reels, I've also heard that the Concept C on this page is very very very nice, http://store.13fishing.com/c/freshwater Although expensive.

I have never used either of these products, so you may want to do some research.

Best rod regardless for me is Dobyns. Best value at an affordable price? All Star rods at Academy are hands down the best "bang for the buck" in rods. Really surprising feel & quality for the price.

Chumbag,
After hearing your explanation, I can definitely see why you put the rod first and foremost. I will try this with my next setup.

Thanks for the thoughts of all.

I have several H20 reels, and they are hard to beat for the money. I have higher dollar reels too, but they dont seem to perform any better than my H20's. It is also pretty easy to swap them out at Academy whenever they do give you any trouble.

Also, i agree that the rod is far more important. In my opinion, it is all about the feel. The Cabella's XML is a really nice rod. I think they are $149 normally, but you can find the on sale for closer to 100, and they are great about swapping them out if you have any problems.

Best real for the money I'd say hands down is the Lews tourney pro or BB1 pro and they can both be found new for $150. As far as rods go that is debatable.
